On Friday, the British Library opens a new exhibition about the history of science fiction. Titled "Out of this World," the free exhibit runs until September 25. This is the earliest known portrayal of a time machine. Spanish diplomat and playwright Enrique Gaspar y Rimbau suggests that time is related to the atmosphere; his inventor, Sindulfo, creates an electric space-time machine that escapes the Earth's atmosphere and flies against the Earth's rotation
