In the early 1970s, San Diego artist Phil Kirkland, now 85, created a slew of fantastic illustrations for textbooks and science magazines of the time (and also science fiction novels). Over at the excellent 50 Watts blog, Will Schofield posted a gallery of Kirkland's work. The image above appeared in Life And Health (1972) with the caption: "If government can legislate against drugs, may it some day require people to take them?"
