What lives in the waters of Antarctica?

Answer: Lots of delightful creatures. This video, taken in 2007, looks a bit devoid of life, at first. But if you pay attention, you can see translucent sea cucumbers, yellow sea lilies, a glass sponge and more.

In fact, a 10-year survey of Antarctic marine life wraps up this week, leaving us with a new understanding of the weird and wonderful world flourishing under Earth's iciest ice. Among the species discovered: Fish that have glycerol-laced, anti-freeze blood; sea stars with arms like the long, tangly doodles drawn by bored junior high students; and bioluminescent worms.
