Happy birthday, Marshall McLuhan!
Today's is Marshall McLuhan's birthday! In celebration, here is his classic scene in Annie Hall. My friend Jen Colton is McLuhan's granddaughter. (Funnily enough, Jen does PR and is terrific at it!) She once told me a great story about her grandfather: In the days before TVs had remote controls, McLuhan connected a light switch on a very long cord to the speaker of his television set. When a commercial came on, he could mute the sound without getting out of his easy chair. Now that's the media hacker spirit! Happy birthday, Marshall McLuhan (1911-1980)!
