Child-tasering officer fired

The mayor of Ozark, Arkansas, has fired the policeman who tased a 10-year-old girl. He apparently had to exploit the same technicality previously used to suspend him: failure to use the built-in camera. [KATV]

Next: the police chief who defended the abusive bastard.

After that: a new ordinance authorizing the mayor to fire police officers for brutality, which they apparently don't have yet. Listen up, city council.

and what about the cruel, abusive mother who asked the cop to tase HER OWN DAUGHTER?

baby steps, but at least in the right direction...

Wow, still no comments defending the cop and expressing dismay at how he lost his job in this economy? I'm impressed, this has got to be some kind of record.

Not a technicality. The whole point of the camera is to document the reason for the taser being used. In the case of a 10 year old, it's essential.

I think the point is that many of us think that no matter what the camera would have showed had it been used, there's no excuse for tasing a 10-year-old, and the fact that he did so alone should have been enough to cost him his job.

Unless the officer faced grave bodily injury, I can not begin to imagine a circumstance that would ever be considered essential.

To bad the mother who invited said behavior can't be fired.

She can be. She's a dispatcher!

But she didn't do her misbehavior on the job, unfortunately. I certainly hope her fitness as a parent is at least called into question by someone with authority to do something about it.

The mayor received notice that Bradshaw was fired, which implies that he didn't do the firing. Why would he notify himself?

Maybe the Mayor ordered the firing but didn't actually do it himself, as in "Commissioner, I want that officer fired."

Xopher, you seem pretty cool. we should hang out.

Officer Tazing a little girl fired?

Fair enough! HE got what he deserve and I am hoping that he will be forbidden to work as a cop again.

To bad the mother who invited said behavior can't be fired.

Sure she can. Child protective services can (and probably should) take her children away from her.

Oh, what about the children! Won't somebody think of the -

Whoops, Never mind, somebody finally did.

Maybe he can get a new job in Maricopa, CA?

I think you mean Maricopa County, AZ.

"failure to use the built-in camera."

That's really the best they could do ? I naively thought that tasers should only be used when subdueing a person would entail some kind of bodily harm to a police officer.

So tell me, how in the world could an unarmed 10-year-old girl pose any kind of threat to a trained police officer ? Oh, I see : the mother asked him to taser her daughter !!! I guess that makes it right ? Police fail AND parenting fail. We're doomed.
