For the curious, here are the eligibility requirements for food stamps.

You need to be *seriously* poor in order to be eligible, and the stamps only provide for a very modest amount.

(And yet the conservatives continue to complain about people taking advantage of the system -- unless you flat-out lie about your assets, the eligiblity requirements seem pretty airtight)
