I find Michelle oddly fascinating. Maybe it's that I get an odd kick out of watching women put makeup on. It's not a sexual thing, more like a fascination with a moderately arcane art that I have no experience with whatsoever.

Kind of like watching an expert martial artist kick ass or watching Bob Ross paint.

-abs will admit that the fact that she's an incredibly cute Japanese girl doesn't hurt either

This doesn't work for me at all. Should I shave my beard?

You know, a lot of the guys that dress up as sailor moon could use this.

just sayin..

The make-up might work, but for me, step 1 would be: lose 60 pounds. There are some costumes some people just aren't meant to wear.

hey, girls read boing boing too, and i'm one of them! even if i might be totally cynical and would never dress up a sailor moon, i will definitely use those anime eyes all the time. yes, all the time.
also, asian girls with light colored contacts has got to be one of the creepiest things i have ever seen. my sister-in-law wears green ones and it's pretty frightening.

This was really fun to watch. Being a guy, the only makeup I've ever had experience with was stage makeup on the few occasions that I've acted. Still, it's really interesting to see how different someone can look with just a few strokes of a brush. Also, those contacts are really cool! Not only do they change her eye color, but they also make her eyes look bigger and shinier. I never knew something like that even existed!

@absimiliard: Not that it matters, but Michelle is actually Vietnamese. From what I understand, anime is popular throughout much of Asia.

Watching this and some of the other videos linked at the end of this one, I'm impressed how much she seems to know about applying make-up. I also find these videos oddly compelling to watch... kind of like those Joy of Painting shows.

She left out the part where she is attacked by tentacles!

Aww that was so cute. Yeah girls read here too :P

I went to a party as Faye Valentine once, but it didn't hurt that I already had the haircut.

I'm too old to dress up like sailormoon. That would look.... uh... rule 34 ish. Not my style. But I think this tutorial would work for a guy too.

I don't know why I have such a softspot for cosplayers.

As someone who never wears street or casual make-up, only occasional full-on costume make-up, I totally appreciate tutorials like this. Make-up is an involved art-form, and when you don't practice it very often it can be hard as hell to figure out how to achieve the affect you're after. That thing about applying shadow down the sides of the nose? Genius! And the use of whites & highlights in make-up always intrigues me- too much & you look unintentionally zombie-ish, just the right amount and you look bright, perky and sweet as pie.

I would suggest that even fully-bearded boingboing readers would achieve a lovely look following detailed instructions like these. Which makes me wonder- do the Sisters Of Perpetual Indulgence do make-up instructional videos? If not, they should!

She has tutorials on everything from Arabic pop singer make-up to how to look like a drag queen.

I just watched that whole thing. I feel dirty.

I shudder to think that Mark F. is at this moment in front of a mirror trying to make himself look like Sailor Moon.

Wow. I used to watch/read Sailor Moon... 15 years ago!! Time sure flies right by. That said, of all the comics convention cosplayers I've seen, this is probably the best 'Usagi' costume. Nice!

The last minute was very uplifting and positive. We need more of this in the world.

These contact lenses might not be manufactured properly, leading to eye infection and blindness. So, be careful. Otherwise have fun.

Because why?

I subscribe to her channel and I don't even wear makeup. I find her tutorials weirdly compelling and interesting, and listening to her talk is like giving my brain a massage - she has an incredibly soothing voice and a relaxingly hypnotic delivery.

Plus, I just really enjoy watching someone who is so skilled and gets so much pleasure out of something doing their thing and sharing it with others. Same reason I watch MAKE videos for gadgets I have no interest in.

Not gonna lie... I have a Sailor Saturn costume that I wore on Halloween.. unfortunately this is a few weeks too late.

Also, there's something really calming about her voice...

Was I laughing at her, or laughing with her?

I can't tell!

It was the kind of laughter that brought tears, so I'm leaning towards "with."

She may very well be a genius.

I thought it said Michael Palin.

In the Japanese version of the series, she gets naked when she transforms.
