Advisor: What will happen if I clone my dog?
Have you ever considered cloning your dog? I have. Ruby is so cute and sweet, but she probably won't be around a decade from now. Since I don't know how to find her family and she can't have babies, maybe it's the only way possible to keep a part of her near me forever. I contacted RNL Biostar, a ... More.
Unemployment stats in the USA just got worse
America's official national unemployment rate is now 10.2%. But there are more sad numbers in the Bureau of Labor Statistics's October report, out today. Jobless rate in some states is higher. Michigan's the most grim: 15.1 percent. Nevada: 13.0, Rhode Island: 12.9, California: 12.5, South Carolin... More.
Much loved photo supply store B&H sued for job discrimination against women
B&H, the photo and video gear company much-loved by photogs and filmmakers worldwide is in hot water over employment discrimination claims - again. Four women claim they were denied sales positions because of their gender. According to reports I'm seeing, there are historically no female sales staff... More.
Couple charged with trying to sell fake Warhols
A 65-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were charged last week with trying to sell six fake Warhol pieces to a collector. The couple told the collector that the subject of the art was Mathew Baldwin, one of the famous Baldwin brother actors. The pieces were signed an dated in 1996. After giving ... More.

Ugh, dude. Why would you think otherwise?
Sour + bitter. I would think a flavor combo like that would taste like poison.
The container shape is even worse.
Coffee ice cream can be tasty.
Guess that doesn't work for yogurt.
That seems about right.
I was hoping the high fructose corn syrup, industrial coffee flavoring and stabilized whey protein concentrates would form an inadvertant fantasia.
Alas, no.
Sure it's due to the coffee flavor and not due to the (undisputed, scientifically proven and ground-truth based) fact that all "fat-free" yogurt is horrible?
Gimme the 8-10% Mediterranean stuff any day!
Usually the "coffee" flavoring in yogurt is just wheat. That's right: WHEAT!
Not sure who decided wheat tasted like coffee, but I bet they're a chain smoker.
Breyer's Mint-chip yogurt tastes like peppermint Kaopectate. Thought you should know.
..yeah my boyfriend bought this for me when I asked him to pick up some yogurt. It must have been on sale or something... I didn't have the heart to tell him it was awful... It's like yogurt sour watered down coffee.
"99% fat free" is all you need to see to know it's horrid. Full cream yogurt is the only way to go.
It wasn't Yolplait, but once I had coffee yogurt for some reason, and while I was eating it, I thought, "This is weird and not really good," but when I finished it, I immediately wanted another one. Which is frequently my experience with coffee, actually.
Are they still claiming that Yoplait is actually yogurt? Or did the FTC make them finally relabel it as "HFCS-flavored milk product with modified corn starch and tricalcium phosphate"?
All of the potentially interesting yogurt flavors are always in the nasty fat free yogurt.
Clearly you fat-free yogurt haters have never had it strained and mixed with honey.
My fiance and I just found this on our last trip, me being a junkie and her being a former cafe manager, we had to try it. She ate it monday before I got home from work... She said she had to struggle to get past the first bite, she almost threw up.
Now I have to buy another if I want to try it.
@#11 Well, they wanted to, but it wouldn't fit on the container!
Jolly, Finally a food that tastes a little like poop and a little like vomit. Yummy.
Note that it is not a universal requirement that coffee yogourt be bad. Laliberte coffee yogourt is amazingly delicious. This is in part because it's about 8% fat, none of your semi-skim nonsense.
Actually, pretty much all Laliberte yogourt is delicious.
Make your own yogurt and don't buy pre processed crap. That's more in tune with the Maker ideology of BB, right?
I tried this a few months ago.
"Horrid" an amazingly nice thing to say about it all things considered.
I used to LOVE coffee yogurt. Love. I adored it.
Coffee don't belong in Yoplait, it belong in yo mug!
I'm happy to be a bit contrary here, but I know a really nice tasting coffee flavoured yogurt. Ok, only available in iceland, but really delicious and appeals to a surprisingly wide age range. Has been in production for as long as I can remember (25-30 years).

Yo, u da man.. 99% fat free but 99% sugar loaded.
Contrary opinion number 2: I'm a big fan of Breyer's coffee yogurt. I tried the Yoplait and no, it's not as good as the Breyer's, but I think the level of revulsion expressed here is a tad overstated . . .
Spoondance had at excellent 'Vermont cappucino' water-buffalo yogurt. And Spoondance is also out of business.
Coincidence? Clearly THEY do not want us to have good coffee yogurt.
But does anyone make a yogurt-flavored coffee?
it's a foodproduct. as in: not actually food.
I've tried a number of coffee flavoured yoghurts. Hoping against hope each time that, this time, yes this time will be different. This time it won't taste like sour black pot scrapings from the bottom of Sham Harga's coffee pot. Each time I'm bitterly dissappointed, sowing another bean of discontent in my soul.
Well, I like coffee ice cream; I would probably have tried this hoping it was a sort of coffee-ice-cream flavor. Sweet + creamy + coffee isn't necessarily bad at all.
On fat free yogurt, strained Greek-style fat-free yogurt (Fage 0% is the only brand I've seen so far; I think Trader Joe's may have an own brand) is totally the way to go. You'd never know that stuff was fat free.
There was a time that there were three different brands of coffee-flavoured yoghurt available at my local supermarket, all of which I greatly enjoyed. Then, in the period of one week, ALL THREE disappeared.
I speculated at the time that I had somehow slipped into a strange parallel universe where coffee yoghurt had simply never been created, but this post has forced me to face the fact that the yoghurt makers are just dicks.
Perhaps I'm just taste-crazy, but I'm a big fan of Dannon All Natural Coffee Flavored yogurt. My tastes have been questioned before however, so YMMV.
Make your own yogurt and don't buy pre processed crap.
I bought an ice cream maker and half the recipes for frozen yogurt call for Dannon Lo-fat™ Vanilla Yogurt. The whole point of making my own ice cream was to make real food from simple ingredients. And save money.
I would have to agree with Rob on this one. This yogurt tasted like someone had left heavily creamered coffee out for a very long time. Just plain nasty.
Brown Cow cream top coffee yogurt is pretty decent, you might want to try that one. I've yet to have a Yoplait that tasted like yogurt as opposed to sugary goop.
I'm more interested in the upside-down pot. Surely it makes more sense to have the wider end open? Why do Yoplait do that in the States?
If you want a coffee yogurt to work you have to get away from that sloppy yoplait crap - make it yourself, thicken some homemade (or a good plain variety) yogurt in a cheese cloth for a couple of hours and dump some well-sweetened espresso that has been allowed to cool to room temperature.
Seriously - they have these in the hotel when I travel and I get sick looking at them. What is in yogurt except milk? Read one of these, and it's high fructose corn syrup and a dozen things you won't recognize. It's sad when yogurt has to be faked at this level - and the end result is that it tastes like plastic!
We only eat 0% or 2% Greek Yogurt now (usually Fage). You can find it at Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and most health food stores. Even at 0% fat it's much smoother and creamier than the stuff you can get at the grocery store. Taste test them and you'll see that what we sell in America as yogurt is horribly bitter, watery and has an unpleasant mouth feel.
Coffee-flavoured yogurt is really good!
Bitter and sour are two tastes that go great together.
Fage makes great starter culture for your own yogurt, too. Yummy.
Making your own yogurt is stupid-easy without any special equipment. I could sort of see coffee-flavored yogurt if you added a ton of sugar or agave to some espresso, and stirred it in, but -- I dunno. Not my thing. Mild, homemade yogurt with a pinch of salt and some agave or honey and a handful of fresh berries = paradise.
I'm with dwotshea. Dannon Coffee Yogurt FTW. Been having it nearly every morning for years. Yum,
Coffee-like drinks from wheat and other grains have a long history. I was very sad when Postum stopped being made, and am using my last jar very slowly.
+1 to Dannon Coffee and Brown Cow anything.
Greek Goods Honey yogurt is my current insane fave.
Also down w/ Clover vanilla bean.
Dannon's coffee-flavored yogurt has been around forever. Why is Yoplait's news?
I
And to top it off, they dropped raspberry/white chocolate this summer, which was fantastic. Bastards.
Breyer's Mint chip ice cream used to be good. Then the new corporate head (Unilever, I think) ruined it. Less ice cream for the same price (effectively making it too expensive), and new lesser-quality ingredients including “chocolate flavor chips” instead of real chocolate. I'm not a chocolate fan but I don't want some waxy substitute that better serves their budget.
Big business ruins everything.
Love Dannon coffee, and I actually remember an even odder flavor, which they made through the 70's- "prune whip" Yes, prune whip yogurt was my childhood fave. There, I said it.
Remember Pepsi White? Yogurt-flavored Pepsi.
Give me Fage any day. I can get it at Giant Eagle as well. Not just those health food stores. And unlike Stoneyfield and other plain yogurts it doesn't taste faintly of vomit.
Never liked any coffee yogurt enough to have it more than once. Coffee really belongs in a cup by itself, anyway.
Antinous @ # 34 - So don't use those recipes. Substitute home made yogurt.
i dont get how this is in boingboing. wtf? if it was frog-flavored or hemp yogurt or yak's blood yogurt: ok.
it's a great example of how languages aren't static and evolve over time - bb just reflects fluctuations in modern english wrt. the definition/usage of the adjective wonderful.
it's the fat free aspect - not the coffee. Dannon coffee flavor is yummy!
that seems like a terrible idea with no potential quality to it.
Coffee don't belong on yo plate, it belongs in yo mug.
well, duh! eat food people, not flavored shit.
The problem is that I don't know how much sweetener to include, because the ™ yogurt is pre-sweetened. I'll probably just make a big bowl of goo, freeze it and see how it tastes.
Making yogurt, then experimenting to make frozen yogurt out if that is an experiment in biology, chemistry and physics that you can eat!
I'd suggest using the icecream maker to freeze the yogurt, though, as keeping it in motion gives a better texture than just tossing it into the freezer.
Dannon Coffee yogurt is good! Try that.
Your talk of Pepsi White, jfrancis, along with a quick google search leading me to the Pepsi page on wikipedia has led me to the discovery of "Pepsi Ice Cucumber: Limited edition green, cucumber-flavored Pepsi sold in Japan in Summer 2007."
Sounds like the perfect breakfast to me! My breakfasts' usually consist of yogurt and coffee anyway... I should tell my mom about this.
Yoplait is actually the only brand of yogurt I can stand to eat - I'm not sure what they do differently, but it doesn't have that nasty sour taste that seems to be near-universal in yogurts.
Re: "Fat Free" - Actually, this isn't. This is just normal yogurt, made with skim milk instead of whole milk - they have a separate fat-free line of yogurt.
That'd be the 26 grams of sugar per 8 ounces. (or artificial sweeteners in the "light" kind).
I don't like Yoplait anything. It's all too gluey and viscous to seem like food. I haven't had it in a while, but from my experiences with the Dannon Coffee flavor I can +1 that.
Am I the only person that actually likes this flavor??? I have a ton of it in my fridge. I find the weird factor appealing, and I like to eat it in tandem with drinking a cup of coffee.
Dannon has made a coffee flavored yogurt for years- and I love it! I haven't tried the Yoplait version yet, but plan to as soon as I can sink a spoon into one.
Roasted cereal was used as a coffee substitute in Europe (and many other places I imagine) during WWII, when real coffee was a rare luxury. Some form of grain-based coffee substitutes are still found in French supermarkets today.
It's cheaper, of course, I guess that's why they use wheat in mass produces yogurts, along with the high fructs sirup, etc.
(see also comment 45).
"Breyer's Mint-chip yogurt tastes like peppermint Kaopectate. Thought you should know."
a) Breyer's makes yogurt? who knew
b) I think anyone eating mint-chip yogurt pretty much deserves whatever foul taste they end up with. if somebody actually came up with a way for it NOT to taste like peppermint Kaopectate, it probably deserves a Nobel Prize for Science.
Good mint chocolate-chip icecream - easy:
Make a custard of:
- cream without all the gloop that goes in standard whipping cream these days (where I am that that means getting organic cream, which is extra delicious; organic eggs and milk make a differenc too)
- milk
- egg yolks
- sugar
- very strong mint tea
- nothing else - no guar gum, cellulose gel, any of that stuff
When it's reached a nice custard consistency, stick it in the fridge to cool. Once it's cooled, in the icecream maker and stir:
- the mint custard
- coarsely chopped good quality chocolate (I've never found chocolate chips that didn't taste waxy and way too sweet)
That's it - good stuff in, good stuff out.
It tastes like shampoo, tried one today.
Danon coffee yogurt was my favorite yogurt in the 1960's. Yoplait is yogurt flavored pudding. (I have sweaters older than you people.)
My grandma loved Postum - I'm not sure if she still has her last jar or not, but it also lasted a verrry long time.
You can buy in on ebay for ridiculous amounts of money:
http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=postum&_sacat=See-All-Categories
Have trouble processing the phrase "coffee-flavored yogurt" at all, really. Sounds vile.
But wait... I thought the spoon was supposed to stand up in the coffee?
I thought it was amazing personally... just saying.
I've tried coffee-flavored yogurt before. I don't care what brand it is, that stuff is nasty.
in canada liberte makes a moka yoghurt (actual yoghurt) that isn't half bad http://www.liberte.qc.ca/en/page.ch2?uid=25 , but, don't go near the green tea "fruit on the bottom" i'm not sure what the green tea "fruit" actually is but it makes me retch
if you shake it up and freeze it its delicious.
Yeah, I tried it once...it's just foul.
You tasted poop and vomit?
Trader Joe's "European Style" Mocha yogurt is actually pretty good. I wouldn't rule this one out on looks.
Seconding Liberte's moka yoghurt. It is divine.
I'm a little confused why they a) label it fruit on the bottom when it's FLAVOR on the bottom (no real fruit involved here) and b) bother putting the flavoring on the bottom and require you to stir the whole thing up, but it's REALLY worth the effort and mild cognitive dissonance.
I've had cappuchino yoghurts too - they're pretty decent. The trick is to stay the hell away from Yoplait; gelatin does not belong in yoghurt.
And yes, stay the hell away from reduced fat/skim milk yoghurts. They all taste funny.
this stuff is grody!
