EFF lawyers grin like holy fools, surrounded by a fan of formerly secret government documents

Followers of Boing Boing will know that the Electronic Frontier Foundation has been battling in court to force the US government to disclose documents related to the illegal mass wiretapping that the phone companies and Uncle Sam engaged in as part of the "war on terror." Now the government has blinked, and EFF has the photos to prove it.

Hugh from EFF sez, "A photo of what it looks like when the gov't says 'uncle': EFF lawyers with a mountain of telecom immunity docs."

Schwiiiing!

Now everyone send them some love: http://bit.ly/41PSVs

Good for them. Let's hope that their efforts amount to more than just self-congratulations. It's good that they forced the G to release these documents, but the bigger prize is stopping warrantless wiretapping.

photoshopped

The fact that these papers were eventually released essentially means that they were not, as was originally claimed, actually important to national security... wonder if it's possible to get the government on purgery?

the illegal mass wiretapping that the phone companies and Uncle Sam engaged in

Am i missing something or should this verb not be in the past tense?

Makes me feel that my minimum donation to the EFF was well spent. I think my $10 probably bought the ink for one tenth of one letter.

Nope. The docs were printed by the US Govt and FedEx'd to EFF. EFF is scanning them and putting them online for the public. It'd be great if the govt just sent them electronically, but that's not how FOIA works.

I have been meaning to donate to EFF. Such dudes. They deserve mad respect from everyone. Double thumbs up for their recent backing of indymedia.us http://www.boingboing.net/2009/11/09/how-eff-saved-indyme.html

Next payday im going for the pioneer... gotta get me a tshirt. I am horrified that basically noone I know, outside of this little happy mutant club, knows of EFF. Tshirts are surely the best way to spread the word :P

It's too bad that we now have to say "Uncle Sam" instead of "Bush Administration".

Sigh.

Some FOIA responses are electronic, some are paper. It depends on the department.
