A reader writes, "Passengers riding Walt Disney World's updated Space Mountain attraction will be able to play video games as they wait in line. Each game lasts about 90 seconds with a 90-second interval and the games can accommodate 86 players at one time."
Space Mountain is a notorious slow loader (all coasters are, since they can't do that lovely continuous belt thing that characterizes, say, the Haunted Mansion; nor do they support giant boats like Pirates of the Caribbean). Anything to make the queue less dull is great news!

And since it's indoors they can't rely on the Flying Pig, or rather Son of Flying Pig.
I remember them having an okay museum in the mountain, but that was over fifteen years ago. I seem to recall that it was hidden away as well [because I only found it when I chickened out on riding the coaster]. I'm a big fan of video games, but why not funnel the line through the museum?
I don't know about this. I remember the line for space mountain being really awesome with those great (now) retro faux 3D galaxies and star displays. I feel like the vibe that it had will be killed by these sort of cheesy looking asteroids games. oh well.
I'm not sure what you mean by a museum. Perhaps you are referring to the post-show exit path, where exiting riders would pass by a series of dioramas. 15 years ago, those dioramas would've been the RCA-sponsored exhibit called "Home of Future Living" showing how RCA technology would improve our lives. In 1995, the sponsor was changed to FedEx, and the dioramas now show researchers on an alien planet using FedEx to beam packages back to earth.
Interesting development, but having recently visited, played games on and blogged about Interactive Displays at Disney World, I prefer the very large scale interactive display game in the Soarin' queue (which I provided photos of) more than this smaller scale - in size and audience / participation - type of game.
This is great! Last time we were at Disney Land, we waited in line for Space Mountain for well over an hour. After a while, there's only so many tweets you can send from your phone.
Agies wins 1 internet!
I know of one sure-fire way to avoid lines at Disneyworld.
I went to Tokyo disney in about year 7 and it was packed as hell first thing in the morning. The first line I went in took about 55 minutes.
Then some clouds came out and it drizzled for all of about 30 minutes. Not rained, drizzled.
By the time it stopped the park had half the number of people and the longest line I waited in was 20 minutes. Space Mountain was absolutely great in the late afternoon. 5 minutes tops, we just went on it over and over again. Towards the end they just let us stay on as there was no one queuing up to get on when we arrived at the end.
Ah the wonderful memories. Sure as hell beat Euro-Disney with it's hour and a half cues.
