Apple patents anti-user attention-complianceware
Apple's filed a patent on a design for a device that won't let its owner use it unless that person demonstrates that she has complied with an advertiser's demands by paying attention to an ad and taking some action indicating her dutiful attention. It's amazing how many of these vendors fail to und... More.

Canada's "TV tax"/"Save local TV" squabble explained
My last few trips to Canada, I've been puzzled by difficult-to-follow advocacy ads in which the broadcasters and the cable/sat operators have fought each other tooth and nail, begging Canadians to take side in a dispute over -- well, that's the problem. What was it over? This Writers Guild of Ca... More.

Yes, of course. This would turn out for the better, certainly.
Ha, idiotic minds think alike, take this one from Australia.
"There is an argument for suggesting that the safety and morale of our troops may warrant a ban on dedicated Muslims joining the armed forces, who may be influenced by Islamic fundamentalism." - Christian Democrat MP Fred Nile
How to win friends and influence people:
1. Threaten them with death ray
2. Ban them from public service
3. Wonder why they try and kill you
Gaubatz is also the author of "Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That's Seeking to Islamize America." So this shouldn't come as a surprise. Plus a court recently forced Gaubatz to remove a bunch of papers from his website, because they were stolen from CAIR. http://www.kansascity.com/444/story/1559014.html
The man is a nutball.
Anyone who uses the terms "Islamification" or "Islamize" in a serious fashion pretty much needs to be shaved, sterilized, and shot into space.
Let's ignore, for the moment, the fact that neither is an actual word. The entire movement to demonize Islam in the Western world has revolved around a handful of xenophobic conspiracy theorists who push this idea that Muslims are trying to "take over" Western culture... of course, nearly every single one of these guys is a fundamentalist Christian who is trying to take over Western Culture for Christianity and are in many ways far more dangerous to Western freedoms than the Taliban ever will be.
Is Islam a backwards, superstitious religion whose scriptures justify killing? Sure... but so is Judaism, and Christianity.... if I wrote some book about the "Jewification" of America, I'd be laughed/chased out of town as a racist kook, and rightly so... and yet for some reason, we tolerate this kind of bullshit when it comes to Islam...
Ignoring those pesky little constitutional issues with his idea, how do nutters like this guy get press coverage at all?
I'm sort of at a loss to explain what would constitute a "professional" backlash. Pretty much any backlash I've ever been familiar with has been stunningly unprofessional.

How badly would you have us gut our constitution and civil liberties to counter the "muslim threat" posed by "haji" that you perceive? Should we amend the constitution so that the first amendment applies to everyone but Muslims? Maybe we should just round them all up and put them in camps.
Also, since the second most deadly terrorist in U.S. history, Tim McVeigh, was apparently an adherent of the christian identity movement, can we afford to ignore the terrorist threat posed by christians?
The idea that we should discriminate against any individual against whom there is no evidence beyond their general religious beliefs is bigotry. By allowing the actions of some extremists to drive you to suggest we should gut the constitution and abandon our civil liberties is to concede defeat by the terrorists. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Completely agree with you, but the comments will be removed or disemvowelled shortly I'm sure.
I don't know how far you'll get with such a bigot. It is terrifying and sad such an opinion is held (and fairly widespread). Just recall all of the "Obama is a muslim!" fear. Why does it matter? It doesn't.
Click on the report link, and a mod will get to it soon.
indeed, Some men you just can't reach.
An "Anti-Muslim Backlash?" Really? What did he think bombing the everliving fuck out of Afghanistan and Iraq was?
I agree. Since the individual has taken a position that starts with fear and suspicion, travels to bigotry and is on the rails to overt racism I fear he is lost. But I couldn't let such dreck stand unchallenged.
So maybe he wants us to have our very own Kristallnacht? Good times.
In the past I would have said "Let him on the public airwaves so by his blathering he can totally ruin his own arguments in the court of public opinion." Of course that was before Glenn Beck.
Specious reasoning can cut both was: I've noticed that it's always people that own lots of guns that end up coming into work or school and blowing away their co-workers or students/faculty-- I guess whenever someone owns several guns we should immediately put them in jail, just to be safe.
>>Gaubatz is also the author of "Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That's Seeking to Islamize America."
I'm in a bookstore drinking coffee and I just saw that book before reading this. I was thinking, "What kind of moron etc., etc..." I guess I have an answer!
I was discussing the prospect of "backlash" with someone yesterday. Even if you take it for granted (and I don't- because I'm part of this group myself) that some segment of the population is dangerous- locking them out of opportunities and liberties is a surefire way to increase violence. It's simply an impractical racist revenge fantasy.
