How can you monitor a person's email, browsing etc etc, if they've been cut off?
Seem to me, if the UK Govt. wants to watch everything we do, then they need to let us keep our internets

No, the purpose is to create an incentive for the creation of new works. It may seem like a quibble but the distinction is important. Once you start thinking of it as welfare for artists you end up with copyrights that last a century, and successful artists that never need lift a finger again. /derail
