The Zoomquilt II, a 2007 sequel to the jarring Zoomquilt of 2004, is an even more hypnotic Flash zoom-through collaborative painting with bits from more than 30 different artists. Zoomquilt 2 (via @Chris_Carter)

Recently I was replacing an old socket in a recessed ceiling fixture in our kitchen. The insulation on the wire was very old. Here's what the old socket looked like: It was coated with gradoo, so I went to the local hardware store and bought a spanking new socket: When I got home, I discov... More.
Staff at a "major" cellular carrier in the U.K. sold millions of customer records to other companies, according to the BBC. Unfortunately, the British regulators are protecting the carrier's right to anonymity, so we don't know which one it is. Any guesses? Update: T-Mobile 'fessed.... More.
The Lung Flute is a simple device that uses sound waves to vibrate wads of mucus in your chest cavity until they rip apart and become more easily cough-up-able. (For better or for worse, the ultimate "results" of using the Flute are not shown in the above video.) Handy, certainly. But why, you may... More.
Click here for higher-rez image. Anthony Citrano says, Being an observer (and occasional shooter) of all things fashion, I was just was looking at December's "W" cover [above] with Demi Moore. In the interview she says she'd rather be a "puma" than a "cougar" - but apparently, the clumsy P... More.
Of course, after staring deeply into the Zoomquilt for a while, once you look away your field of vision seems to be zooming in the other direction. Classic perceptual trick; the brain gets used to tracking constant motion in one direction and subtracting it out, and continues subtracting for a little while even when the motion stops.
#1:
I get the same effect after playing a few rounds of guitar hero. :D
I'm stoned, thanks for this.
Wow. I thought the first one was good - thanks for posting this treat. I think my brain fell out.
Seems like a quality-over-quantity version of Gridcosm (http://www.sito.org/cgi-bin/gridcosm/gridcosm?level=top), which has been around since 1997- practically an eternity in internet time.
I watched for several minutes, then when I returned to BoingBoing, all the text and images were slowly receding!
The ZoomCosm:

This takes the Gridcosm images and animates them!
i don't know why they have made this so bleeding small... but anyway - - the master of zoom:

I watched this for 3 hours before I realized that it was a infinite self-referential microcosm.
That's 94 seconds I'll never get back...
Hmm... longer than the first one, but not as good. The transitions aren't as intriguing. And I miss the ribbon.
My mind... is melting....
I thought it was awesome, but the screensaver is a waste of time - super jerky and seems to eat up processing power.
that Nickelodeon one is pretty awesome
Can anybody (easily) tell me how they did this? I have quite a bit of experience with Flash, but have not been able to figure out how to make a movie perpetually zoom into itself. Any tips would be great!
oh man, there's a perspective change from landscape to over head! wish they'd explored it for a while instead of guiding it back.
Zoomquilt & zoomquilt2 are awesome, but I think the Tin Man "Infinite Oz" zoom beats them both:

The addition of music/sounds and moving animations really make the difference.
