I'm with Maddow on this one. Baby sea turtles are great, especially in soup.
I admire efforts to cut government waste, but McCain always seems to fixate on relatively small expenses that provide tangible benefits instead of the big ones that don't.
What's $3 million for a world-class observatory projector compared to trillions spent on ill-advised wars and bank bailouts? $250k to help save endangered species is an incredible bargain by the standards of Federal spending.
Don't get me wrong, I'm no McCain fan, but I think the whole point of his post was that there ARE earmarks, not whether or not they're worthwhile. He probably does hate sea turtles, though.
There are a lot of things that I like, including baby turtles.
But I know the difference between "I like X" and "I want to take money from my neighbor's paycheck, under threat of imprisonment, to support X"
Keep in mind that John McCain may have never set foot in a Planetarium, or if he did, he didn't understand what was going on around him. In one of the Presidential debates he seemed to think that the complex sky dome projection systems that major planetariums use were some sort of "overhead projector." Let's just say that science and technology (and economics, and not being an "anti-government" hypocrite when your personal fortune derives from a business that only exists because of a governmental interference in the marketplace) aren't his strong suits.
