The lobster abomination

I suppose the people in Maine who voted against gay marriage will now organize to shut down the lobster industry, right?

This isn't actually a comment on Maine's repeal of gay marriage (a decision that I abhor) but I notice that this posting and the boing boing home page doesn't have the retweet, facebook, and comment word bubble icons that other posts have. None of the short image or video free posts do. Was that a deliberate design decision? I'd like to be able to re-tweet some of the shorter posts.

Echo.

I actually see them Chris, so perhaps it's on your end?

#1, I'm seeing them. Problem must be on your end.

No, not just on Chris' end. See this screen shot.

Oh, and: Down with Lobster!

now, scroll to the top of this post, et voila.

http://www.godhatesshrimp.com/ has been around for years.

I understand people are upset, but please don't promote any attacks on our economy, it's in pretty bad shape already. Also, you would be punishing the 47% who tried to keep the law on the books.

What Maine needs is more promotion of diversity in schools and yes, more time, as hard as that is to take.

I agree with you realgeek. I voted No on one, and I'm not happy that the referendum passed. I think the liberal portion of the state (your readers, Mark) are still a little sensitive about this topic.

I think we're a lot sensitive about it.

Even more frightening is the People's Veto that Michael Hitchens of the Maine Christian Civic League already has on the books for next year to remove ALL protection for homosexuals from the Maine Human Rights Act and to declare civil unions unlawful:

People just will never learn that the time for a boycott is BEFORE the vote!

The re-tweet, etc comes up only after you click on the comments link and then scroll up.

Very counter-intuitive. I think it'd be easily fixed by having a smaller heading that worked the same as all headings (a permalink to the TOP of the article).

Sorry boycott what?

Boycott gay marriage? Same sex marriage? Shellfish??

The Biblical passage banning shellfish was addressed only to my fellow Red-Sea pedestrians and there's no need for others to follow them.

On the other hand, Genesis 9:1-4 was addressed to Noah and his family (who symbolize the entire human race):

"And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat."

Clearly, if you're not supposed to eat life or blood, then eating live worms or bobbing for apples in blood is right out. In other words ... FEAR FACTOR IS AN ABOMINATION!

This means, of course, that Maine should not have any legal recognition of Fear Factor.

According to the Lobster fisherman interviewed by Conan O'Brien, they don't need Gay marriage because of the fishing boats and the fog.

"to declare civil unions unlawful"..

All civil unions are unlawful according to the current Federal US Government. Just like all medical marijuana laws are unlawful as well.. but Obama does say that he supports it.. I think you will eventually see a change at the Federal Level during this administration or at least an attempt to change the laws that define "marriage".

Here is the quote from the WhiteHouse: From the White House Web site: President Obama supports full civil unions that give same-sex couples legal rights and privileges equal to those of married couples. Obama also believes we need to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and enact legislation that would ensure that the 1,100+ federal legal rights and benefits currently provided on the basis of marital status are extended to same-sex couples in civil unions and other legally-recognized unions. These rights and benefits include the right to assist a loved one in times of emergency, the right to equal health insurance and other employment benefits, and property rights.

before anyone thinks different though, I voted no on that repeal as well ;)

oh yeah and the term "thereof" used in the bible is used as "belonging to you" or "as yours is" so it means you don't eat other people.

Lobsters have fins under and on the end of their tails. a fin is an appendage that provides thrust for movement. So yeah lobsters have fins.. sorry.. they are also known as "swimmeretts" As far as scales are concerned, a scale is a small rigid plate that grows out of an animals skin to provide protection.. Lobsters have scales too they grow new ones after they moult their old smaller ones.
