Photos of a furless bear

200911051122 Here are photos of a bear that has lost her fur, save a few tufts around her head. All the female bears at the Leipzig zoo suffer this humiliating affliction. (I think the CIA, which associates bears with communism, sprinkled thallium salts on their paws to cause their fur to fall out.)

Vets baffled by bald bears with mystery condition

Hmmm... I don't know about bears but a human I know contracted a fungus that made all his hair fall out. It was an atypical reaction to it, but it still happened. The hair didn't seem likely to grow back. But it did. Hopefully they'll be able to get this bear to grow her hair again. While it's no doubt a good zoo attraction it can't be comfortable to have so much skin exposed for a furry animal in winter :(

The new missing link!
These bears are obviously at the forefront of the polar shift that everyone is trying desperately not to recognize.

Their genetic structure, excited by local galactic conditions, have jumped the evolutionary track from their previous route, onto a branch closely related to human male pattern baldness - more specifically onto Neil Young's family.

Fuzzy Wuzzy?

Or they will begin walking on their hind legs ...

As sad as this is for the bears, I can't help but be fascinated by this chance to see how they're put together under all that fur. For example, their heads are more narrow and canine than I would have expected, and *man*, their necks are long!

Man....that's one bare bear! Is it just me or does this bare bear bear a striking resemblance to the Montauk monster previously posted

cue the cryptozoologists...

This happened to a bunch of bears in Florida a few years ago. Evidently, the black bears in the Ocala National Forest had some kind of fungal infection that made their fur fall out. I was visiting someone in FL at the time, and these bald bears were on the front page of the paper.

Hairless bears sorta remind me of the evil dogs from Ghostbusters...

WARNING: do NOT google image search for bald bears !!!

****ing Germans. Nothing changes. ****ing bear-shaving Nazis.

Don't they sell Rogaine there?

Poor little critters, can't someone on one of those knitting sites make the bears some nice wooley suits or something?

They look properly cheesed off,and its going to get colder soon.

(trained) Bears with shaved faces were exhibited in sideshows as ugly people at one time. I am often amused imagining the scenario whereby the ruse was revealed.

Not a genetic condition like the hairless chimpanzee from St. Louis Zoo named Cinder (who died in Feb.2009)

Same exact thing happened to my dog last year. Not mange, not metals or pesticide poisoning, no organ failure, just a total loss of hair. Never did figure it out, and we put him down last month.

She's embearrassed

That haircut bears a striking resemblance to Elvis's.

... and remember kids, Don't feed the Yao Guai. That is all:)

Is... is that a manbearpig? Oh Mr. Gore, please come rescue our sorry souls!

Nair bear.

Since Gabrielm #3 didn't use the ENTIRE children's rhyme, I shall do so now:

Fuzzy Wuzzy was a Bear.
Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hair!
So Fuzzy Wuzzy wasn't very
Fuzzy, Wuzzy?

wokka wokkaaaa!

Teen sex belongs in teen lit

My latest Locus column, "Teen Sex," explains why I think young adult literature should have sex -- and other "mature" topics -- in it.
