Amy Wallace's Wired feature, "An Epidemic of Fear: How Panicked Parents Skipping Shots Endangers Us All" looks at the life and times of Paul Offit, vaccine inventor and advocate, and the anti-vaccine pseudo-science he battles as he attempts to convince parents not to give in to fear and disinformati... A new British independent poll conducted by Ipsos Mori concluded that the people who do the most illegal downloading also buy the most music. This is in line with many other studies elsewhere and is easy to understand: people who are music superfans do more of everything to do with music: they see m... More.

When I was growing up, there was a Land Of Oz theme park nearby located at Beech Mountain, North Carolina, and had a Professor Marvel wagon set up there. I think they did puppet shows out of the wagon; all the major characters had a miniature house along the yellow brick road and did a song-and dance number as Dorothy led the tourists around.
A good portion of the theme park is long gone due to the 'need' for more ski slopes, but they still have tours during the summer, and you can even rent the replica of Dorothy's house. Great for immersive steampunkers, although the microwave is a bit jarring in that 30's theme.
The half of the house I'd like to explore, though, is the connected 'post-tornado' duplicate of the house built at a 15 degree angle, complete with witches legs poking out from under it. Don't know if that half is still intact, but they do still have the yellow brick road to explore..
Just don't try prying out a brick to take home, the flying monkeys will get you.
I like the little thumbnail (with Dorothy in the picture) a wee bit better than simply text and background
That's lovely! For the record, the best Professor Marvel line:
Dorthy - "Please take us to see the Crown Heads of Europe."
Marvel - "What? You know any? Oh - you mean the - thing."
and of lesser note:
Marvel (to his horse) - "We better take cover, Sylvester. Looks like this storm's gonna be a whopper, as they say in the vernacular."
Would make a nice background for some of bd miller's photography

Par Ardua Ad Alta!
"Per ardua ad alta." is Latin for "Through difficulties to the heights."
Thanks for posting this David.
