Electric chair haunted house prop

Ken Pilot's "Sparky" is a haunted house prop of a guy getting fried in an electric chair. It would scare the wits out of my kids.

Electrocution prop par excellence

As a kid i went to a haunted house here in San Antonio. they had something similar to this behind a big piece of plexy glass. so i stand there at the glass and laugh at how I'm not at all scared by the guy pretending to be electrocuted.

Then he jumps out of the chair and slams the plexy.

best scare in the whole house.

I'm not sure methods of execution should be considered entertainment but perhaps I'm just too thin-skinned about this. How about a nice guillotine scene as well?

I'd feel better about a guillotine, really, as they are clearly a thing of the past. This, not so much.

What's really scary is the plaque you read before the electrocution -- about how the DA and Sheriff were pushed to convict /someone/ in a high profile case, and there wasn't much evidence but the guy confessed after a mixture of sleep deprivation / scare tactics / and a promise that it'll all just go away if he signs a paper. Then 20 years later they find out that someone else was responsible all along, and they had coerced, convicted, and murdered an innocent person for political gain... and that anyone in the audience COULD BE NEXT!

Or, in other words, they based this on one of too many true stories.

Is it lonely up there on your soap box?

"How about a nice guillotine scene as well?"

Well. there's this: http://www.nicolemagne.com/blog/category/costumes/headless-2006/

I'm going to be talking about it on Science Friday tomorrow. You should call in tomorrow and raise hell!

Look again: he's not alone.

The scariest thing that I ever saw at a haunted house was actors cleverly disguised as tables and chairs. They'd jump up when you were standing next to them waiting for the zombie to move.

That is frightfully amazing. It doesn't look like a real person under there, but the lights, sounds, and jumping around are sure flashy. Well done!

This just seems in poor taste to me. It could be a good way to make a point, though. I think I'm just extra squeemish.

Looking at NPR's website:

Mark's Science Friday segment is due to air in the 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm segment.(12:00 pm - 1:00 pm Pacific).

It's the second story so I guess it would start sometime between a quarter and half past the hour.

Thanks for letting me know, Stefan. They told me to be ready to take the call at 12:20pm Pacific!

Needed some flashing LED's in the eye sockets to really sell it.

The lethal injection version of this is really boring.

I was fully prepared to hate it, but I love it. It's zaptastic!

(besides, the best political commentary is uncomfortable..)

Here is a variant of the electric chair prop with a twist!

Few days ago on BB there was a strong discussion about dancers @ Yahoo event in Taiwan not good for kids so this post makes me think that what is supposed to be OK for kids depends a lot of social/cultural backgrounds since I would never ever let my kids "have fun" with an Electric chair haunted house prop...

What really "makes" it is the smoke wafting out from under the skullcap at the end.

Needs a hotplate behind it with some hair and bacon.

As parents, if you're concerned with their well-being, I'd hope you'd duck your head into a "haunted garage" set-up to check if it's suitable for your kids before letting them go in. I'd hope most parents would have the common sense not to take their toddlers to a run-of-the-mill haunted house or Saw VI in the movie theatres, but alas. Graphic, yes, but funny how severed bloody limbs laying around a garage is socially acceptable but this isn't.

I would wait for a few seconds, have the guy turn the head a little, laugh and say, "Is that all you got!" Then start the cycle again.

I have a hard time seeing the fun in this. Dressing up a bit for Halloween, sure. Bloody limbs and all.. But realistically depicted government sanctioned murder? Eh.. no thanks. I guess you can see where I stand on the whole death-sentence thing.

Sure hope that's OT..
