Gareth Branwyn says, "Paul Overton of DudeCraft has been running a series of well-known bloggers writing about their Halloween memories. Here's mine."
Snip from Gar's wonderful contribution:
The above picture is from one of the years (1984?) where we were living in a group house and the whole group went as The Addams Family. That's the "real" Patch Adams as Gomez. We were a house of all impressively eccentric people, so going as the Addams Family wasn't much of a stretch. I'm Cousin It, on the left. My whole-hair body is made from a crapload of fake fur material. It was hot as hell in there and I couldn't see very well out of the eye-holes, which brings us full circle to those arrested memories of my childhood. I may still find myself in sweaty, restrictive costumes, but I can assure you that the view from my ill-cut eye-holes is far more exciting than anything that little suburban unfortunate ever could have imagined.Halloween Stories - Gareth Branwyn - Mr. Wonderful et al [Dudecraft]

Somewhere I have a photo of me, my lovely wife, and a friend dressed as Rock, Paper, Scissors.
And I remember attending a party once where the San Francisco skyline showed up.
Sadly, no photos of me dressed as the Flying Nun in 1968.
That Cousin Itt looks a little more like Chewbacca.
I went as "Esteban" a few years ago, and it was apparently impressive to some at the party, but it was really just an excuse to have a guitar handy when I got wasted and wanted to play.
Portland-based artist Stephen Slappe did this:

It was part of the Time Based Arts festival this year...documenting Halloween costumes based on figures of/in American popular culture. This Addams Family photo definitely would have fit right in!
@earbox
Yeah, truth be told, it wasn't the most successful costume. As I said, it was hot as hell in there and it LOOKED like the cheap, short-hair, fake fur material it was made out of. But everyone knew it was Cousin It, with the hat and the glasses, even when I wasn't with the rest of "the Family." So overall I was happy.
Oh yeah, don't take it as an insult--the costumes are clever, and collectively, they definitely look like the Addams Family. (Separately, not so much, but when you put 'em all next to each other...)
Morticia and Lurch look pretty much right--Gomez looks more like Rip Taylor, and Fester looks like Klaus Nomi.
No offense taken. You're right.
Patch really had the Gomez act down. JJ, the guy dressed as Lurch, was amazing. And don't forget Thing. Dave had to stay inside that box all night. I liked that our costume was a whole group of people and it involved showing up with furniture, that chair, and the box with Dave inside.
This made my day. Wonderful!
According to Wikipedia, Patch's kids names are:
Atomic Zagnut Adams
Lars Zig Edquist Adams
=D
This is true. That's Atomic Zagnut, with his ferret, in the pic. He goes by the name Zag. Lars Zig goes by Lars, so they were never Zig and Zag (darn it).
Before Lars was born, I was pushing for the name Zig Kyle. I don't think Morticia... er Linda was amused.
Oh, wow--I thought that Thing was just a plastic hand. Impressive work for that guy.
