Proof that President Obama is a Borg

Eric Spiegelman made this funny video from more than a hundred still photographs of Barack Obama with various visiting dignitaries. Obama's smile is exactly the same in every photo! It's more fun if you watch large size here or on Vimeo.

I love it and what's that song?

consistency is the hobgoblin of great presidents

it feels like a "gotcha" when you see that he's got the same tie on in every shot, but alas, all were taken the same day...

Obligatory reference: http://parisfacial.ytmnd.com/

But wait!!! In the shots where you can (partially) see Michelle Obama's smile it TOO looks to be the same! A Borg pair?

What me worry?

What's even more amazing is that his eyes are smiling throughout. Totally looks genuine. He is made of sunshine and fairy dust.

He looks like a standee.

@mark: Music is "Cold Hands" by the Black Lips

Those are actually photos of some of the Obamabots, robotic doppelgangers that he uses for public appearances. In actual fact, all of those photos were taken at the same time, in different places.

I've said it before and Ill say it again.

Obama is 'The Smiler' (Transmetropolitan Reference for those who don't know)

I have a picture with him from back in 2004 when he was running for the Senate in Illinois.

I just looked at it again - and it's almost the exact same smile. Now I don't feel so special. :)

#13, it'd be the right timing, considering who the last president was.

There's a technical trick in play here. First, each picture is positioned by reference to his face. Next, the order of pictures is selected to minimize apparent motion. It's a good effect; and I gotta admit his smile is pretty exactly calibrated. Of course, if you have enough pics to choose from you can select for that too...

The next batch of presidential candidates is already being designed, built and tested.

Someone who is constantly in the public eye and poses for photos on a near-daily basis has a well-rehearsed "smile for the camera"?

No!

Next thing you know, you'll be telling me someone writes his speeches.

Gosh, the amazing things one learns on Boing Boing.

Why the snarky comment? It's meant for entertainment purposes.

You know, like the Paris Hilton YTMND is.

That's mildly disturbing, but nowhere near as disturbing as Alexander Stubb's smile.

There must be special "smile coaches" for people who spend a lot of time in the public eye, so they work out the ideal smiling pose and just repeat it every time.

Remember, Superman had all those stand-in robots too. Obama was probably really off destroying North Korean nukes or something while his robot did the diplo stuff.

He looks totally wasted. Like he's gonna crack and piss himself laughing any second. God I love that man.

We've got the real Obama put away for safe keeping.

And this is a bad thing how ?

BO has same tie on in every shot. Were these all taken on the same day?

Why even go to the trouble of getting your picture taken with the president. Just photoshop yourself in. It's not like he's buddies with all those people.

I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords.

What I got from this: The President only has one tie. I think it would be arrogant to think anyone needs more ties than the president of the USA.

Also the USA! pin on his left lapel is in the EXACT same spot every time. I wonder if his handlers dress him.

I bet a lot of politicians have the same robo-smile technique.

Well, if he is a borg, that would probably explain the lack of a birth certificate...

On one hand, a well made video clip.

On the other, that's not at all surprising or disturbing. It looks like there was a line of dignitaries waiting for pictures. Obama probably barely took a step in between each shot. And honestly, if you did it too, you'd have the same mechanical smile. This post seems like it was meant to be bait to freak people out on a trivial matter.

The song is "Cold Hands" by the Black Lips. It was the only thing in my iTunes library that matched a 6 fps rhythm.

@Eustace The photos are in exactly the same order as they were posted on the State Department flickr page.

Well, if he is a borg, that would probably explain the lack of a birth certificate...

"Citizenship is irrelevant, you will be assimilated."

Great smile.

The similarity of tie and placement of tie pin is explained by the fact that these were taken on the same occasion. (see backdrop).
