Researchers have grown replacement penis tissue for rabbits from the animals' own cells. The erectile tissue was then implanted and the rabbits apparently went on to screw like rabbits, successfully reproducing. According to the scientists at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, this was t... More.
A new study on "partner abandonment" has found that a woman is six times more likely to be separated or divorced soon after a diagnosis of cancer or multiple sclerosis than if a man in the relationship is the patient. Link... More.

Yves Béhar (who is in an epic struggle with Marc Newson to claim the title of "sexiest industrial designer alive") designed this vibrator. It looks like a Miyazaki cartoon creature. The Form 2 takes a two-pronged approach to the vibrator, giving its user what they're calling "Sensation in Stereo.... More.
Michael Jackson's funeral cost one million dollars. His final outfit cost $35,000, and the flowers cost $16,000. Lord. Obviously I'm no MJ anyhow, but when I die, if there's a mil lying around? Feel free to bury me in nekkid dirt and use the rest to feed pie to starving kids.... More.
It's meiosis!
If you reduce it down to the smallest pixels the colors change and it creates a picture.
It's a horrifying 1970's wall mural generator! Run for your life!
Maaaan. I'm not normally obsessive/compulsive but it's harder than it looks getting everything to reduce down to the smallest dots.
@#2 Anonymous:
You might be telling the truth, or this might be a fantastic troll.
a metaphor for fly-over country?
I'm colorblind, so it doesn't work on my computer.
@ #5/2 As the app continues to run slower and slower and my OCD drives me to hover over each and every dot, I think to myself "This day will end with 'Anon' being my hero or my new nemesis"
It helps if you right-click & zoom in on an area. That way fewer dots are changing at a time & it doesn't slow down as much.
This game sucks, I can figure out how to reach the end boss (level 1 was the trickiest!) But I think the last boss is impossible.
I'm going back to counterstrike. Thanks for wasting 2 hours of my life, boingboing!
I like the part where they start moving around.
@ #10 - Pull up your Pip Boy, it'll provide clues.
It does make a picture. It's a screen grab of an analog TV set after the switch-over to digital broadcasting.
I eagerly await the magic dots MMPORG.
This is what happens when Felix Hausdorff pops bubble wrap.
www.mrdoob.com has tons of these fun flash experiments
It's like flying over the midwest farmlands.
Try the one named HORSE (upper left)
Amazing!
Our secret space overlords have finally devised something more brain-numbing and addictive to the human race than either teevee or Tetris. Your DNA is almost ready for harvesting. Just continue to divide the dots. Everything will be fine...
Can we get a screencap of the final image please?
goodbye dissertation!
It's a schooner!

Yes, you're right! It does create a visible image-- however, you do have to stare at it for a long, long time for it to become evident.
This is getting ridiculous. I've now reduced a quarter of the image, just to see if there's really going to be a picture. If there's not, I'm holding BoingBoing responsible for all that wasted effort!
A quicker, non-flash version http://whompbox.com/magic_dot/index.svg
Can someone please explain the magic of boxSpin?
Got a low score of seven turns, yay! Can't stop.
After fulling reducing the image I believe I can definitively say...
The cake is a lie.
I stumbled on this flash app a few weeks ago. I never thought of myself as obsessive compulsive, but some 6 hours later as I looked with blurry tired eyes at the clock showing 5:00 AM, I realized I might have a problem.
I did the math and figured out that at the smallest size it would be 65,536 dots.
For nearly killing me it was at least a good example in exponential growth.
Completed. Sad to say, no special image, no other reward. Just the thrill of finally finishing this thing.
Report and image at http://peacelovesmusings.blogspot.com/2009/10/ocd-comes-alive.html
I updated the ballthingy. I ported it to AS3, so its a little bit smoother and now there is also a "reward" involved :)
