Dr Peter Watts, Canadian science fiction writer, beaten and arrested at US border
My friend, the wonderful sf writer Peter Watts was beaten without provocation and arrested by US border guards on Tuesday. I heard about it early Wednesday morning in London and called Cindy Cohn, the legal director of the Electronic Frontier Foundation. She worked her contacts to get in touch with... More.
Nanoscale snowman
Simon sez, "David Cox at the UK National Physical Laboratory has created this snowman, which is ~20µm high." The snowman was made from two tin beads used to calibrate electron microscope astigmatism. The eyes and smile were milled using a focused ion beam, and the nose, which is under 1 µm wide... More.
Chicken-suited street musician plays "What is Love" on Pianica, rocks righteously (video)
Here is your Friday soundtrack, people. Alex Ringis of Synthtube says, I was in Melbourne for Game Connect Asia Pacific (GCAP) 09, and I found this busker standing outside Flinders Street Station in Melbourne. He was playing the hit 90's track "What Is Love" on bass guitar, Pianica, with the assist... More.
Reformed British alien appears in Raisin Bran ad
This short video advertising Kellogg's Raisin Bran Crunch shows a reformed alien sitting at the breakfast table, engaged in a rambling monologue about how he has metamorphosed from a scary flesh-eating monster into a pilates-practicing, go-with-the-flow type of guy that you might want to sit down ... Fun Biz Markie commercial for TuneUp
I've always gotten a kick out of Biz Markie. He reminds me of a cartoon character. That's why he's such a great fit on Yo Gabba Gabba! where he does the "Biz's Beat Of The Day" segments! I was delighted when my pal Gabe Adiv got Biz to star in a commercial for his start-up TuneUp Media, the servic... More.

There! Evil PURE AND SIMPLE by way of the Eighth Dimension!

Great job. The alien voodoo, illicit substance dealing, coming of age, feel good movie of the year!
I feel lucky to have seen such a rare animation.
I thought it was really cool and original. Loved the backgrounds and cars!
Is this available in other formats, like BB Video? Mpeg, DivX, even Youtube? I'd love to see this, but Flash for Linux is teh suxors, and won't handle Vimeo (or most Flash games, or anything much - it barely stutters through Youtube on a nice dual processor).
Wow, trippy.
Fer me the integration of stolen conversations was the highlight, not the more contrived bits. Did the animation lose some tightness in later chapters? I loved the spaghetti hair!
Again, absolutely loved it. Before the crossbow dude walked up, I knew he'd want the McGuffin shrimp. It happened just as I guessed... too good. The missing hair in Blue's head... priceless. The sound effects of the cartoons... laugh-out-loud. The denouement... big cool. Do it again!
Dragonfrog: There must be something about your system that is causing problems. I had no difficulty at all, and I'm running Linux. I can play every flash game I've encountered and only a couple of the more cookie-crazy video sites give me any problem.
I'm going to have to watch this thing again. I'm not sure what to make of it.
I can run vimeo no problem on my dapper Ubuntu system, dragonfrog.
Wow did I ever have to uninstall and reinstall a lot of stuff to get that working. But it does work! Thanks everyone, I wouldn't have beleived it could work otherwise...
I love getting things for free. It's my favorite thing. I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it. Thanks for sharing this! Superb.
I remember that movie. Glad to see you're doing well.
Cheers.
Woodwater.
Really liked it. I've never seen stop motion combined with photography quite like this; it gave it a distinct atmosphere that worked well with the overall tone.
I'm not sure I quite understood it all, but it was nice going along for the ride.
