Vintage tech commercials

Kim sez, "I recently came across a videotape of several hours of TV footage from 1996. I scanned some of the more interesting commercials, including a bizarre dystopian ad for Packard Bell computers, Sony Mini Disc Walkman, Internet World Magazine, AOL and networkMCI. It's interesting how most of those products and services are no longer with us."

Commercials from 1996 (Thanks, Kim)

So commercials from 1996 are "vintage" now?

I have a pile of Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes taped from cable around that time (94-99). I see these all the time on those. I was just recently marveling at how vintage these really are.

I guess they thought the Mac "1984" ad was sooo long ago that NO ONE would remember it?

"I love the 90's" and I love the use of real models!

I *remember* that commercial...1996 wasn't that long ago, folks, gahh!

I misread the title of this post as 1986... ;-)

Geez, when you said 'vintage' I was thinking 70s!

I got hosed on the Mini Disc, I was really betting on that one :(

I can see where the ad picked up the dystopian theme. Had the whole world ended up using Packard Bell's computers, the dystopia would have come to life, and you truly would want to stay home all day, sucking down all external info from your home computer's erratically functional 2.2μb internet connection.
