Rice Krispies classic operatic commercial

Vesti la giubba! Spotted on YouTube by BB pal Drew Carey, this 1960s Rice Krispies commercial is an award winner. Simpsons fans may recall Krusty the Klown paying homage to it as well. (via @DrewFromTV)

Gosh, you're making me feel old. I remember this commercial, and actually sung it for my son a couple of weeks ago. Thanks for digging it up!

hahaha... welp, the fat lady sang!

My tears will not stop
until I hear snap crackle pop

I hate to sound all getoffmylawn, but the commercials in the 60s were mostly better than the programs are now.

Italo-American stereotype much ?

The Tahiti Bob's version in Rome was cool noneless.

Can't recall seeing this, but I do remember that style of box.

I barely remember a cereal commercial with Jimmy Durante. He was plugging Corn Flakes that came with dehydrated banana slices.

This truly is a "wonderful thing"

I'll watch it but I'm boycotting kellogs for the crap with Phelps.

Wait, I know I've heard The Simpsons paying homage to the wonderful Vesti La Giubba from Pagliacci.

But they also riffed the the Rice Crispy version riffing the original? Interesting.

Oh, wait. Never mind, I misread the description.

Who is that man? Looks very familiar.

What is the Simpson episode wher Krusty paying homage to it ?

It's a marvelous commercial but I get the impression that it didn't go over too well with the target audience considering nobody every tried it again with other products. Life is unfair.

They also did versions of Madame Butterfly and Carmen - the Toreador Song. Wonderful stuff!

Thanks for posting this! a quick search on YouTube turns up a nice handful of entertaining operatic commercials: of particular note:

It kind of reminds me of me, doing alternative Karaoke for the Empty Orchestra Cafe in the 90s.

Is this from the same guys who gave us: "I cant believe I ate the whole thing" from alka-seltzer?

"Is this from the same guys who gave us: "I cant believe I ate the whole thing" from alka-seltzer?"

You mean Mary Wells?

PS, I believe that Rice Krispies ad is from the early 1970s.

The guy looks like Johnny Haymer who played Sgt. Zale on M*A*S*H but I'm not sure that's him.

Agreed--commercials back then were better than any sitcom on TV today.
