Aliens invading vintage postcard scenes

vintage.jpg

Image above: "Two Girls And a Space Crab: Simpatici alieni invadono le cartoline del nonno." From Invading the Vintage, a photoset of space alien invaders 'shopped onto old tourism postcards, uploaded by (posssibly created by?) a Mr. Franco Brambilla. From BeDifferent magazine N.5: MUTATIONS (Italy).

Andy Andy Andy does the same sort of thing, in a friendlier and more cartoony fashion, painting directly on vintage 'motel art' prints.

Because this scenery reminds me of "The Sound of Music":

"The Hills Are Alive,

With the Sound of Slaughterrrr......"

This is AMAZING!

I just got back from trekking (aka hiking) in the Bernese Oberland, which is the setting for many of these cards.

I unfortunately didn't see any space aliens while I was there, but I can attest that it is one of the most stunningly beautiful areas on the planet.

What?! I guess no idea is ever truly original. I did something really similar for a gallery show that's running this month. Mine were fully painted though and I called it Disaster Tourism.

Oh, and that wasn't meant to take away from what he's doing here. These are awesome.

That's fantastic. Here's another practitioner: http://ny-image1.etsy.com/il_fullxfull.32655925.jpg

Oh Xeni. For some reason I just assume you've seen it all before. Francesca Berrini has been selling greeting cards that juxtapose kitschy Dick-and-Jane style illustrations with... bad things ... for, sheesh, probably like 8 or 9 years now. And as far as I know you can actually order a set.

My favorites are the "childhood memories" series, although you've got to admit that the pinups are pretty hot.

They remind me very much of H.R. Van Dongen's cover art for 1950's and 1960's paperbacks and Astounding Science Fiction.

The shadows on the robot go the wrong direction. Look at the kids...

This image was indeed created by Franco Brambilla, starting from a vintage postcard.
Franco is one of the most popular italian sci-fi artists. He did a lot of covers for sci-fi books published in Italy, and was just elected "Best Artist" at the last Eurocon in Fiuggi (Italy).

These are amazing... and vanamonde, thanks for the link!

While writing the prequel to Transformers, Michael Bay chanced upon a late night showing of "Heidi"
The rest was history.
See... Cows that transform into giant robots, with udders!
See... Megan Fox play a lost 8 year old girl
See... John Tuturro take off his lederhosen to reveal a speedo
See... The hills alive with massive explosions

And, be sure not to miss.... ahh, hell, you might wanna miss this one.

:) thanks for the great comments! Best and ciao

Franco

I seem to remember a short story wherein the Earth lies contained within a force field imposed from without by alien races losing a war with man. Encountering an even more menacing and inimical other species, they return to to Earth and unleash a humankind made vastly more potent by their long and solitary isolation

cool!

How forensics use Photoshop to find missing children

Children go missing all the time. It's a sad, terrifying fact.
