Elevator warning sign

Of all the risks people face, klamrisk is the worst.

apparently it may also create dead links...

You can lessen klamrisk if you avoid eating them during months spelled with an "r".

In what language?

Very common sign in Swedish elevators actually. I even have the right pictogram on a self designed t-shirt nowdays. Ah, the sweet every day horrors... And yeah, kläm means squeeze or squash.

Uhm, that's not an elevator. I forget what it's called -- I'm sure somebody else will fill that in for me -- but it has no doors and is continually in motion. Thus, you have to be careful around the bloody things lest you die from your garbage can or some other physics-related cruelty. They're uncommon in the US (I've only ever seen one in a DC parking garage), but that pic obviously isn't from the US.

Klämrisk photoshop thread.

A warning that one or a few pictures might be NSFW.

Hehe, I have this in my building too. It's kind of like when it says 'only for external use' on the shampoo bottle.

Almost as good as the one warning of amputation I saw on a piece of equipment, mid-forearm guillotined and blood gushing.

A key point here is that in most Swedish elevators, there is only an external door, flush with the elevator car. No internal door. So really what this is saying is, don't push the cart against the external wall or door as the car's moving up or down.

Did they make this up? Or was it in response to an actual incident?

I must know.

Klamrisk!!!

Farfetched are our transporter gods. I have seen some sacks near inner door (and) yellow photocell.

This is the funniest thing I've seen all week: it HAS to have been based on a real event, just look at the perfect way the poor little guy klammed his head. Too good.

Still laughing.

Presumably it is for a rather lethal paternoster elevator

Anon @ No.6,

We have one of the contraptions you mention here in a tower in Sheffield. It's called the patanoster.

For those who've never seen one, imagine a constant stream of openfronted lift cars riseing through the shaft, looping over through the roofspace, then decending a 2nd shaft (and looping again in the cellar). You hop into any car as it trundles past, and you can ride through the loops in the top and bottom to witness the gigantic finger-sliceing bicycle chains that run the whole show. It's an awesome ride and a H&S nightmare.

That would be paternoster, as in the prayer that you say when you ride it.

Wait...how do the mechanics of that work? I see this as you push the bin against a wall and then somehow wind up with your head klammed into the corner of the car??

i read somewhere else that it really happened then there was a video link to a youtube clip showing the type of elevator. It is a constant moving elevator that has no door. kinda operates like a bike chain always looping around. Its for hopping on and off. And some poor old lady had to go and get her face mashed against her trash bin.

It's fairly new (like a year or so) regulation in Sweden that says that all elevators without an internal door has to have that sign. And, yes, it's because there are accidents like that every year. I call the guy in the picture Leif and feel quite sad for him and his demise on a daily basis.

This is one of the few warning signs that I actually follow because the sign in itself is so foreboding. They are in many of the Swedish elevators and I shudder everytime I see them.

This is not, I repeat, NOT a paternoster type of elevator. What it is is an regular open car type, with doors on every floor to close off the elevator shaft, and hazardous edges going by as you go up or down. There are incidents every now and then where people haven't had the insight to push the garbage bin to the back of the elevator (or elevatör in this case), and have gotten fatally pinned against the back wall of the car.

Greetings from Sweden's friendly neighbor Finland (the home of Kone elevators), where most of the elevators now have inner doors and/or photovoltaic cells. And if you push the yellow button with the bell on it enough times, you get to talk to a friendly operator who is nowhere near where you are.

you know if there's a warning sign than it's happened at least once.

I used to have an unmarked elevator next to my office. People kept thinkingt it was an exit and opening the door and looking down the elevator shaft.

I put up a sign that said, "Warning! Please do not fall to your Death." and a picture of a guy falling.

#24 Lol finn, elevatör. Elevator is also a swedish word for the kind of conveyors with scoops that transport grain. Pronounced ele-vah-tor. Elevator, or lift, is called "hiss". Most elevators in Sweden are installed by Kone already.

By the way the sign says it's dangerous to transport goods like this in an elevator lacking inner doors or photocells. So it's just for older elevators because photocells and a direct hotline for help is current safety standard.

These aren't just on paternosters. Swedish elevators often (usually) don't have interior doors.

A similar sign showing another gruesome death on Swedish elevators.

I saw this warning in an elevator in Germany. It was an old elevator with no inside doors. The funny thing was the graffitti on the sign annotating the guy as "Rudy"

Man, I feel sorry about the guy that "inspired" that plaque, but damn if that isn't the funniest thing I've seen all day (and the post-sleep/pre-work period, part of which was spent naked).
