SEC boss told underling to stop investigating Madoff in 2004, then marries Madoff's niece
Funny coincidence: The SEC's Eric Swanson, who told his underling lawyer to stop looking into Bernie Madoff's questionable activities in 2004, married Bernie's niece Shana Madoff in 2007.
By the way, in April Shana contacted Wall Street Prison Consultants, a firm that "gives advice to future inmates on how to survive prison time and win an early release." According the the firm's website, Shana can "learn the ropes of federal prison" including: "Prevent Being RAPED, Prison Living Conditions, The Daily Prison Grind, Your 1st Day What To Bring With, Inmate Personal Property, Inmate Etiquette & Politics, Dealing With Other Inmates, Avoiding and Spotting Informants, Dealing With Gang Members, Defusing A Confrontation, Prison Slang & Lingo, Avoiding Bad Prison Jobs, Getting A Lower Bunk Pass, Getting A Soft Shoe Permit."

The headline and body disagree. Was it 1994 or 2004?
1994 in the headline, 2004 in the article.
You people just hate capitalism.
[/snark]
The SEC needs a really thorough enema.
Or better yet: Get the goods on the bastards, and then give them a choice. Go to jail, or accept a .25% tax on trades.
I love the Wall Street Prison Consultants website! It's got the tacky patina of a shady bail bonds company, but for Wall Street types.
It merely be a nod to Fox Network's habit of mislabelling Repubs as Dems as they like.
Levine's got balls. Wall Street Prison Consultant's is a great website.
Still waiting for someone to explain to me how Madoff became the CHAIRMAN of Nasdaq. With all of the snark about the SEC, how about the self-policing tendencies of the market. They made the guy Chariman, or he lobbied for it somehow. He also must have done SOMETHING as chairman, although having that title alone on his CV probably helped his pyramid scheme.
I want to know.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Madoff gets to keep $2.5 million. I laugh at victims who shoot themselves rather than hunt down Bernie's family.
You wouldn't know this from listening to NPR today. I heard that their romantic relationship only came after stuffing the investigations.
Either way, that's one hell of a quid pro quo.
And once again: the media - not so liberal.
150 years, beeeeyoootch!
Anyone who thinks the rest of the family wasn't involved, please contact me, I have a great deal on a piece of real estate spanning the East River to discuss with you.

ANYBODY that is worth a million or more is automatically a member of MENSA. Thought everybody knew that. I mean how could anybody amass a fortune and be stupid? Money equals power equals Einstein level genius! Let's all get on the same page people. If you're poor you're dumb. If your rich you're smart. Simple.
Wall Street Prison Consultants: the greatest net.art project that never was.
some people just didn't listen when they were kids

Wow, it's almost strange how much I love that website. There is just something about companies that deem themselves legitimate "consultants" and try so hard to portray such a professional image, only to fail miserably with grammar mistakes like “complexs.” You can just tell that dude thinks this is a genius business idea that will turn him into a millionaire. Funny thing is dude gives away his primary selling point (how to complete the prison reduction RDAP program) right there on the website. Higher Power help me if I ever find myself headed to Sing Sing to do some hard time on Racketeering charges, but if such is my fate, I'm pretty sure I would be able to enlist in the RDAP program on my own after reading this site.
I think its comical, states printing thier own money, SEC refusing to investigate things because people are scratching their back. I bet Madoff will still run this economy....from his prision cell.
