i already know how to do this. learned at 13. it's not too hard. 1916 hudson is harder to drive.

also model t's after 1919 had the option for electric start (no need to hand crank)

I would never buy a T without a handcrank. That's like buying a Porsche with automatic transmission. ; )

@pescovitz: oh they still had handcranks they just didn't need them as often.

I already know how to do this. Learned it when I was 5-years-old. It's soooo easy to do. Flying a jet with your feet is way harder, I can do that also. I am awesome. Thanks for wasting my time Boing Boing.

Step 1: Put on a tanned leather mac.

I had the good luck recently to watch a guy start his model T after he dropped off a video at the local rental place. It was electric start, so I didn't get to see cranking work.

The thing started immediately - it would have started on the first crank if he'd used the crank. It ran smoothly and made a gentle purring sound. A very pleasant engine to behold.

I would like to put in a plug for the HF Estate. It is really cool, and the volunteers are knowledgable and helpful. Also just a mile away is the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, one of the best places on Earth if you are interested in history.

I grew up right near the Ford Estate (Fairlane). Our next door neighbor owned a garage for years and when he retired, he worked over at Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford museum on the vintage cars. There weren't many master mechanics left who still knew all the little quirks that each car had. He was like Slingblade; a genius in his own way.

So why are the wheels not circles? They are taller than they are front-to-back. Didn't they know how to make round wheels in 1916?

Oh, wait. Yes, they did. It's just that some lame programmer doesn't know how to keep video aspect ratio correct in 2009.

Interesting. If any of you reading this are young, please try to get one of these before you take your driver's test. It will make it a LOT more interesting.

@Anonymous (#10),

I’ve found that quite a lot of people just don’t seem to notice an incorrect aspect ratio, even if they do know how to adjust it.

Lovely. Anyone remember that fliver scene from Heinlein's Time Enough for Love?
