I think Michael would like this portrait.

I can't look at it, and yet, I can't look away. Now that I've decided the eyes look like Puss from Shrek it's all the more disturbing.

Reminds me of the aliens from Cocoon? I think?

DUNNRIGHT @4, Indeed. Check the link to Drew's post where he comments on the Keane reference.

I'm not visiting boingboing until mid-Monday.

Absolutely hideous...and in an entirely different way than Jackson made himself hideous by the end of his life. I'm not sure what the point is here.

AAAHHHHHH I went out for a second before this loaded to sort out breakfast and I come and there's this thingAAAAAHHH sitting there on the screen. Goddamn.

No kdding. Unicorn chaser, please.

The nose isn't effed-up enough.

blog writer/film maker/producer David Winters, who knew Michael Jackson well, writes a moving remembrance of his close association with Michael. And exerpt:

It was an incredible stage show, and Irina was in hog heaven as she watched Michael perform, having just been with him in the limousine. He WAS amazing and he definitely is one of the all time great live performers I have ever seen. In all we saw about 4 or 5 of his shows that week. Everyone sold out, and everyone better than the last. Michael worked soo hard to please his fans. He gave it his all. And boy, did they ever LOVE Michael. The only time I have ever seen this kind of adulation before was when I did 4 films with Elvis.

After the show one of Michael"s people came up to me and told me that Michael wanted to talk to me in his hotel suite alone. Poor Irina, she had wanted to see Michael again just to tell him how much she loved his show. As it turned out, I also wanted to talk to Michael about a musical film project that I had called "Nicholas Jingle".

So with Irina and Michael Badica waiting in the coffee shop of the hotel I was taken up to Michael"s suite.

magickpapers,

You've exceeded your self promotion quotient. Your web address can go on your profile page. Thanks.

It looks like he's a very scared young boy visiting Neverland Ranch.

horribly, horribly perfect.

Enough already. He couldn't sell an album stateside in the last decade and suddenly "a nation mourns its loss"?

6862 people die in the US per day (thank you, Wolfram Alpha). How about a few grotesque portraits someone else?

I haven't seen this anywhere else, but it seems pretty obvious to me:

Happiest people about MJ's passing? Mark Sanford's staff.

@15 - Exactly! As I tweeted last night:
I'm glad Michael Jackson can make us forget about Iran/Neda & ignore Gov Sanford. Think this was a Sanford/ayatollah hit job?!?!?!?

Oh, and I don't need any grief for not spelling out which Ayatollah I was talking about.

and here is a character that would be useful in about everything I have to post online:

Oh god, the eyes!! THE EYES!! Kill it with fire!!

Michael Jackson (and Jackson 5) are currently holding the top 16 places on Amazon.com's bestsellers in music list.

More disturbing than the man himself. Incredible!

dear commenters:
shut up
michael jackson was weird
duh
he looked weird
duh
you aren't really breaking any new ground pointing that out
personally i think in the last 10 years he was probably the coolest looking person alive
scary but cool

Very profound picture ....

From the other perspective, his death almost brought entire Internet down to its knees:

Yeah magickpapers- there's never any self promotion on BB, just wonderful things... cough cough.
Ever since they announced Jackson's death his record sales have gone through the roof. Even iTunes is on back order.

Rest In Peace Michael Jackson. Your contribution to the world of music and entertainment will always be in our hearts

Where's the Jesus juice? I can't look at this thing sober.

Reminds me of the touching moment when MJ was reunited with his four noses.

o ffs - the beauty of a child molester charge is that it doesn't matter if the accusation is proven true or not. Hence why it's the charge of choice of any dictatorship looking to officially ruin its rivals, instead of turning them into martyrs.

As we are apparently looking at an assisted suicide, all the glib comments about jesus juice even though he was found innocent of chid molestation, probably assisted more in making up his mind.

Seriously I'm not an MJ fan but I think the guy suffered enough in life.

Rest in Peace, Michael

I don't get it, is this supposed to be good or so incredibly hideous it is 'good'?

#28, it's true he was aquitted, but if you read the series of reports on the charges here from Vanity Fair reporter Muareen Orth you can see the case against him was actually pretty strong (especially if you read the last two articles)

Goodnight, sweet prince.

I didn't think there was anything creepier than Michael Jackson until I saw this portrait... I think I just threw up into my mouth a little.

No, my 'favourite' representation of MJ is still Koon's Micheal Jackson and Bubbles. This ceramic kitsch sums up the non-musical side of the whole mess. Though yeah, this one does have spooky eyes.

this is an amazing image, does truely capture him.

wow, that's sad.. what a disturbing and moving portrait. people keep talking about how creepy he looked, and while it's true that he did choose to change his looks via plastic surgery (self-mutilation), he obviously had some form of body dysmorphic disorder. in a perfect world, this sort of thing would lead to the outright banning of unnecessary cosmetic surgery. can't imagine what that must do to one's mind..

also, people are still mocking him for his vitiligo?! I can't believe it. can't imagine how distressing it must be to see your skin losing it's pigment like that, the only treatment available being depigmentation to even out the skin tone. disturbing stuff to have to deal with and the constant jeering and criticism can't have been easy to deal with.

it's sad that people are so shallow that they can't see past the exterior. this man was very troubled and needed help more than anything.

though I was never really a fan of his music (just not my style) there's no denying he was talented. and it's true he courted controversy and did some very strange things, so I mean.. criticise his actions and not as much his looks, if you will?

SootAndStars @ #37: MJ's looks were just one of the very strange things he did.

absolutely perfect .
iBelieve it describes the way he may have been feelinq before his passinq .
pple iqnored him ; now all of sudden he's qot 47476704 top sellers .
people never seem to appreciate people until after they dead &+ qone .
well, iGuess its our "human nature" .

looks good but the eyes kill the whole meanig or purpose of it .... wat ev its nice :)

The Strain, by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan

I'm not a fan of vampire fiction, but The Strain by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan is more along the lines of a vampire-zombie-epidemic-in-New York-City, and wow is it terrific. The first chapter (after the short prologue, which didn't interest me and almost made me abandon the book) is about ... More.

Pratchett's "Unseen Academicals" - a gift to Discworld lovers and an argument for the importance of sport

I always celebrate when a new Terry Pratchett novel hits the stands -- doubly so now that health problems are slowing him down from his normal superhuman output to a merely impressive one. But I confess I was a little less excited to learn that the newest Pratchett Discworld book, Unseen Academica... More.
