Sub Pop Cybersex Digital Sampler

200906090905 Sub Pop is giving away a bunch of its songs as MP3s. The download page they created for it is funny a take-off on 1996-era Web design, with lots of animated gifs and nauseous backgrounds.

The only ones I care about are Fleet Foxes and Iron & Wine. I already have the complete discography of both of them, so... nyah!

Iron & Wine also did some work with Calexico which was pretty good. Calexico's own work is also definitely worth a listen. :)

Awesome, but where are the "under construction" signs?

Awesome. How little did I know that someday I'd feel nostalgia for such poorly designed sites?

does anybody remember the faux-bad "fan" site made as a promo for the film Galaxy Quest? it had it all, starry black backgrounds and fire gifs galore. Sadly, once the film left theaters, the site was changed to a serious movie promotion page.

That's beautifully unreadable. I'd forgotten the ultra-epileptic style of old websites.

This is just another stupid trick to get me to go to the record store. The sad thing is it will probably work. No doubt I'll be tripping over a pile of records on my way out the door...
