The Remains play "Let Me Through" on Ed Sullivan (1965)
Spike Priggen says:
I've spent the better part of the last couple weeks looking at Garage Rock videos and trying to compile the best quality ones I could find. I was really struck when I discovered this one, because it's just about the only one I could find (the other being The Monks on the German show "Beat Beat Beat") where the band is actually playing live and not just miming to the record. And they sound awesome. I'm no Garage expert but I 'm pretty sure that The Remains were one of the best Garage Bands, musicality-wise. They sound amazing here. (I should add that I'm talking about US Garage Bands, there's alot of great live video of Euro and UK Garage and Psych bands, mostly from the German TV show "Beat, Beat, Beat")The Remains - "Let Me Through" (Live)

WFMU's Number One Hitman Michael Shelley recently did a nice interview with Barry Tashian of (Barry &) The Remains. This link is to Michael's archives page. It's a 3-hour show, interview starts about 2/3 in. April 18, 2009 show.

I am old and followed music really closely and never heard of these guys. Clearly a copy cat Yardbirds (with a pinch of Kinks).
I thought Ed Sullivan was the one gig where bands had to play live--unlike Shindig and Hullabaloo and Dick Clark (where lip synchs were just PAINFUL to watch).

Apparently you missed the Mamas and the Papas appearance where Cass says, "Cue the tape" and Michelle eats a banana during the song.
the Remains are so good I'm still blown away every time I put them on. Got to see them LIVE in 2000 in Vegas, great show with the Standels among many others. Got to shake Barry's hand later and meet the band. nice guys all.
@2: they blow the yardbirds away man
listen to the album and you'll know. They didn't make it out of the boston area back in the day, but they were legendary in the city. A lot of incredible regional bands never went national.

That they were. Listen to their album, it's very raw but they could definitely play.
They reformed in about 1976 I think and played a few shows in Boston which were really well received I hear.
The Remains are legendary, we used to play one of their numbers in my punk rock band back in the late '70's and I still do it sometimes even now.
Still legendary in Boston (mentioned by name in the Real Kid's punk classic "Better Be Good"), Barry later went on to play with Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris. The Remains version of "Diddy wah Diddy" kept the Captain Beefheart version that was released at the same time from becoming a bigger hit.
They were well known in New England and were great live. The keyboardist, Billy Briggs, was the brother of recently deceased adult film star Marilyn Chambers.

"A Session With The Remains" is even tougher! Absolutely essential:
