Yahoo's Make-It-Green project
Yahoo has a contest site for makers called Make It Green. You can submit you own green DIY projects and the inventors chosen by the winner judges get "$2,500 and a share of the sales, and possibly appear on the Everyday Edisons TV show."
So far, 51 ideas have been submitted. My favorite idea so far is for a home mulch maker. I wish the site had more details about how it worked. It takes a lot of energy to chew up a tree and the wood chipper I bought a couple of years ago ended up choking on all but the puniest of branches when the blades became just a little dull. There's a Fargo related joke in there somewhere.
I'm not sure how one is supposed to vote on these ideas when the Yahoo site doesn't actually share the content of the ideas. "I've got a great idea for making mulch at home! (Pick as a favorite)"
Well, there's lots of methods for home composting and mulching that can already be found on the internet. How do I know if her method is actually innovative or useful if they don't say what it is?
C'mon, Yahoo. If you really want to encourage grass-roots innovation, do you need to charge a $10 fee to submit an idea? Sheesh.
I'll stick with instructables.
Clearly it's innovative and useful because it can Make-It-Green (tm)!!!!!
I'm not sure Yahoo nor her know what mulch is...it's not compost.
Taking a tree and mechanically shredding it can be considered mulch. Taking yard waste and letting it decompose is called compost.
I'm doubting in the her ability to turn a 100+ lbs of tree into viable mulch for me without the use of mechanical power....
