I'm a proud Pocket watch owner myself ( New York Watch Co. With a Coin silver case, Made in the mid 1800's ) and wear it every day.

Quaint lol

Yeah, some people still uses watches. Funny, the last time I was wearing one, I felt like everybody was asking me "what time is it?" in the street.

On the other hand, this watch is horrible. I would much prefer the pocket watch somebody commented.

It`s alive! It`s alive! Now all it needs is a bride.

I thought this watch was going to countdown the days until Al Franken is seated in the Senate.

Looks like one of Batman's nemesis would like this watch, I personaly think it is horrible. (I am not Batman)

I still wear mine, mostly for the sentimental value though: 21st birthday present still chugging along 15 years later. The stopwatch is starting to do weird things though; when it dies completely I'll just use my phone like everyone else, methinks.

Paraphrased from Forgetting Sarah Marshall:

Peter: So, it must be great living in Hawaii.

Surfer: It is. It's like a totally different way of life out here. I don't even wear a watch anymore.

Peter: Wow, that must be nice.

Surfer: Yeah, my cell phone has a clock on it so I just use that.

call me you have a watch that emits puffs of steam. Preferably with a whistle.

For those that admire beauty in technology, or are just looking for a bit of male jewelry that doesn't scream failed 70s porn star, watches are hard to beat.

Besides, there's something weirdly fun about a watch being anachronistic.

Like it isn't ugly enough, it runs on diesel?!
Peee-yuuu!

My watch weighs over 2,000 pounds. Yeah, that's a lot, but IT carries ME. Oh, and it runs on regular.

I like it. Where can I buy it??

Cool.

I like my self winding watch. The mismatched halves
of this one are visually confusing and it takes a
second to be able to tell what time it is.

"Wow we really aren't selling many of those ugly black and gold square watches we created"

"yeah, those horrendous black, blue and orange ones we created with the chunky steel haven't been moving at all"

"wait, I've had an idea, people don't seem to like our boring but ugly designs at all, so why don't we create the ugliest damn watch they've ever seen?"

"why that's brilliant, it'll be like a car crash you can't look away from! People will just have to have them!"

Has there been a watch-size inflation?

I have a beautiful 1960s IWC 8531 that's too nice (and possibly too radioactive) for everyday use- but all the current analogue watches I've seen seem bulky and inelegant in comparison.

alright then; a tiny steam boiler that burns a match-head sized lump of coal, powering a tiny DC generator that charges a conventional battery for the watchworks. Thw whistle could be be for venting the last of the steam. Or make it huge (but no more than fist sized) and completely steam, maintaining a minimum head through the day by stoking and whistling on the hour.

I know it's supposed to look ridiculous, but good lord, they went with "utterly terrible" on top of that. A kind of shticky idea can still end up with a reasonably attractive watch!

I'll have to chime in with the 'like it's. Maybe just because it's so ugly it's beautiful or maybe just because it's so ugly it's interesting. I'm not sure (although for the price, I'd probably get something with a sapphire face because I'm a bit hard on watches).

oh and,

Takuan: "call me you have a watch that emits puffs of steam. Preferably with a whistle."

That would be awesome!

Put me down for a "Takuan Puffer" too. Maybe a puff every 15 minutes, and a puff and a toot on the hour? And a big crank key to wind it up. I can wear that around my neck.
When I was a little kid I got a Lionel trainset. The locomotive had a bottle of some oil that you put a couple drops in the smokestack and it would smoke. That smoke smelled so... so... steampunk. I wonder if you can still get the smoke oil?
(Maybe it smelled like burning Marvel Mystery Oil?)
