Obamabot to be installed at Disney World, will robotically cover up torture, suspend habeas corpus
An incredibly lifelike advanced Obamabot is ready to be installed in the Walt Disney World Hall of Presidents. It's traditional for the current president's robot to give a little speech at the end of the show. Presumably, Obamabot will explain how the reasonable middle-ground demands suspending habeas corpus, covering up war crimes, and blocking the prosecution of participants in illegal wiretapping programs.
Animatronic Obama Going to Disney World With High-Tech Style (Thanks, Eloisa!)The Obama figure is the result of attention to minute details by Disney sculptors, animators, engineers and even anatomists who pored over presidential photographs and video of him and then drew on the latest advances in robotic technology.
Thus the audio-animatronic Obama purses its lips to pronounce its b's and p's in a way frighteningly evocative of the real one, and raises its hands, open-palmed, while shrugging its shoulders, in a way that can only be described as Obamaesque. Even the president's wedding ring, with its braided design, has been recreated.

The Hall will be closed during our upcoming trip to Disneyworld. I'm kinda bummed out about it, since I'm now unable to do any sort of doctoromage while I'm there. I think the Carousel of Progress will be open though, so I've got that much going for me.
18 + years ago one of youse was born every minute. is everyone over their denial yet so it's allowable to criticize this awful choice?
Read me, Dr. Memory!
Here's another thing that Bush and Guantanamo prisoners have in common: Obama thinks that we have well-worn and established legal avenues for prosecuting criminals.
If the evidence is there, and there is enough will from a talented and powerful law firm, it'll happen. The legal avenues already exist for criminal prosecution.
Point being: If you like Obama's rationale for closing Guantanamo, then accept that rationale in other legal matters.
Hey, how's that don't ask don't tell repeal coming along? And gay marriage for everyone? Net spending cuts? And no penalty if you don't participate in the health care scheme?
I know you thought The One was lying to fool the rubes and get elected, and it looks like he was.
I think this is really neato. Some of you are awfully cynical and doubtful of future political progress. Did you know Obama's only been in office for five months? True fact. No one has a magic wand (except Mickey).
@6 MR.SKELETON: Four months, as of a couple days ago, right?
I like Robama or Robamaton better than Obamabot.
I'm seeing a lot of the same kind of ridiculous knee-jerk reactions to out-of-context remarks that the far-right Republicans have been using lately. What's going on here? Not enough to complain about, now that an intelligent man's in office, so we have to amplify things he's saying into shrill extremism?
Oh, and the animatronic figure is damn cool and I want to see it. Maybe the Lincoln figure will have an animatronic tear run down his cheek as Obama-bot speaks, all while the Founding Fathers look at him in a baffled way.
You know, if Disney does a good enough job with the technology, the Republicans may finally get their perfect candidate for 2012.
zealotry bothers me from whatever quarter it arrives....
no no no.
his name is robotma.
we've been calling him such for months, oh since prior to the sElection when we all hypothesized that that all candidates available for sElection were robots.
and yes, we defend the psychosis of thinking men were being replaced by robots by saying "gah - just kidding"
robotma
Jumpin jehosophat. Give the guy an effing chance to actually get some shit done, would you? You do realize that he took over the country at a REALLY REALLY REALLY difficult place, right? How in the hell do you expect that he could magically fix everything in the first 100 days of his presidency?
@ #6, 8, 12
It's not what he hasn't done; It's what he has done. The criticisms of Obama coming from Cory, other commenters, and myself are not aimed at Obama's failure to do good things quickly. We are criticizing him for doing bad things. It's strange to argue that the president hasn't had time to fix the problems from the last administration when he is very clearly choosing to continue and expand the same policies. Time and time again, when the opportunity has come for Obama to put his foot down on civil liberties violations he has instead given his stamp of approval.
Robotma?
RObama sheds a milky tear
"[W]ill robotically cover up torture, suspend habeas corpus"
Zing, Obama!
Take that for not un-shitting the bed that George W. Bush left us with.

All that effort and they forgot his unicorn steed?!
"Disney sculptors, animators, engineers and even anatomists ... pored over presidential photographs"
Let's hope for Disney's sake that none of those was an AP photograph.
Domo arigato, Obama roboto (somebody had to say it).
The photo doesn't show it, but I heard there will also be a teleprompter next to him, a concession to force behind the man...
No word yet on what will roll on the teleprompter...
mellowknees & MrJM,
Wow, uh.. no. As someone who voted for Obama and watch what has transpired since he took office I am personally disapointed. Here is why.
He had the choice to go after the people who broke the law. He gave them a ride when he found out some were in his own party.
He had a chance to remove a cancer of American society, at Gitmo. He has decided not only to keep it, but to enact his own suspension of rights. With no transparent promised list of guidlines to protect American citizens.
This is just two of many screw ups that I don't feel refect the promises made. Your account of he cannot fix everything Bush screwed up holds no water since these two pieces are highly governed by the president and his policies. If someone was saying he hasn't had time to fix the economy and was saying Obama hasn't done his job, then you would be right. He hasn't had time to fix the problems. Your stand by my man no matter how many poor choices he makes, and Bush era SNAFUs he continues is very reminicient of the Bush followers of the previous administration. I respect your support for your choice but questioning our government and their acts is not an unreasonable thing. You wanted to be respected for asking questions during the Bush administration for your patriotism in light of unbound stupidity, please respect others.
It would be cool though if the Obamatron-bot-whatever did say a bunch of contridictory things. Still happy that we have him instead of the other choice.

Obligatory: but how will we tell it apart from the real thing?
grind grind grind eh?
I think it's fairly obvious than anyone making claims like "it's only been a few months!" and "what knee-jerk reactions!" can't even be bothered to check the habeas corpus Wikipedia page, much less have a grasp of the true importance of it for at least, oh, the past half a millennium or so.
If you don't know why it's so important for Obama to resoundingly oppose the recent changes to habeas corpus, why on earth did you dislike the Bush administration in the first place?
midsentence,
Better said. Less words. Well done.
