You totally left out the "Have you seen this cat? (Because it is awesome!)" meme.

The Earth ISN'T dying. For crying out loud. We're just forcing the Earth to get to a point where it can no longer sustain the lives of us human parasites. After we've gone, the Earth will be free to get itself back to normal.

Some environmentalists are indeed mentalists who seem to struggle with the actual mechanics of the problem.

The Earth isn't dying, it's just trying to kill us.

Earth's just fine on the whole. We, however, might be screwed.

I'm sure the dinosaurs thought the earth was dying too, but it was really just the end of them. (Or is that just what our secret reptilian overlords want us to think?)

no, it's not.

WE might be, but that's a different issue.

Hey Idiot who leaves sticky notes who's production added kilos of C02 to leave a puerile message !

The Earth has survived for billions of years through asteroid bombardments, near total glaciation, massive volcanic eruptions, etc. Your lifestyle may soon be history but the earth will recover nicely very shortly.

Do people really think that insulting slogans are going to change anyone's mind? Or do they just enjoy calling people stupid, and not care that in reality, someone who reads that sign and does not agree that the earth is dying is simply going to listen a little less closely the next time someone presents a cogent argument?

As Carlin said:
the planet isn't going anywhere. WE ARE!
Pack your shit, folks. We're going away. And we won't leave much of a trace, either.

we are losing over 200 species a day. There is 100 times more plastic in the ocean than there is phytoplankton, and %90 of all large fish in the ocean are gone. To claim that what we are doing is only hurting ourselves (humans) is completely untrue.

Why was link I posted deleted off this comment thread?

You killed a tree to make the paper to say THAT?!? 8O

Awesome,

It was a propaganda film. At that editorial level, you'd need to use Suggest A Link.

Like Carlin said, Mankind's entire purpose on this planet might be to make plastic. In any event, nature will incorporate plastic into its new paradigm. It's arrogant and foolish to think we are killing the planet. We might be changing the environment into something completely inhospitable to humans and some other species, sure, but the planet, and life, will continue. I am glad others have commented in pretty much the same way. "The planet is fine; we're fucked!"

Uhg. For most people, "the earth" consists of the living parts of their environment which they interact with. It's a perfectly legitimate way to use the word, in my opinion. You know -precisely- what the person means when they say it, yet it is far more fun to neglect their actual point to criticize a word usage you don't think is appropriate.

There's good stuff in the links, try to snap out of it for a few minutes and let go of that picture. Enjoy Hektor instead, it's a fairly neat application of very simple motors and controls for trigonometric vector drawing.

Or are you too offended that they spelled Hektor "wrong"?

woah! Hektor is way cool!

Or Dan Witz - thats some cool stuff. Someone doing what I wish I was in the right place and had the right talents to do. So often, looking at a wall, a sign, a bit of sidewalk, I think - "man, I -so- want to put little fingers poking out of the cracks..." or "That sign -really- needs a leprchaun just there..." And Dan is the guy who just does it, and does it well. This is the kind of thing I come here for.

(Stop looking at the sticker. Seriously, let it go.)

Needs a sticker beneath it:

"Hey Stupid! The earth's made of rock! You're the only one dying!"

How about:

"Melt an iceberg. Drive your car to work today."
