Indie Chinese art/music/culture site
My Institute for the Future colleague Lyn Jeffery, of the virtual China blog 88 Bar, turned me on to Neocha.com, an incredible hub of indie Chinese art/culture/music. For example, dig the beautiful music of experimental zither player Zeng Xiaogang.

I know you'll all hate me for this, but this is just another anon comment test from Rob.
And another. Hell -- on topic: my first exposure to Chinese culture was Little Nezha, a wonderful animated movie that this artwork evokes well. There's a smoky delicacy to it that never left me.
That was pretty, but not really very experimental to my ears. It sounded to me like a lot of traditional Chinese guqin music I've heard.
Here's an example:

china's underground is awesome. my favorites are Zhang Jian's field recording work (as well as his coproduction of the wonderful buddha box) and the great noise/power electronics band torturing nurse.
whoops whatever
Definitely my favorite site for peeping the youth art scene and trends in China. The NEXT player is pretty radical for learning about up and coming Chinese bands outside of the pop scene.
neocha is a great site, though ultimately hasn't really made it into the mainstream the way that myspace has.... (for musicians here, at least)
David,
Thanks for the post and support!
We just developed a new version of our NEXT music player that allows you easily to discover Chinese indie music. We've made an AIR version as well as a Web pop-up and embedabble widget. Check it out here:

Thanks again!
