This project somehow has the distinction of being both the longest and fastest portable electronics project I have ever done. I originally started making a C64 laptop in the fall of 2006, and kept pecking away at it every so often. Finally, a few weeks ago, I said "screw it" and started over.Commodore 64 Original Hardware Laptop (Thanks, Stagueve!)

Britain's new Internet law -- as bad as everyone's been saying, and worse. Much, much worse.
The British government has brought down its long-awaited Digital Economy Bill, and it's perfectly useless and terrible. It consists almost entirely of penalties for people who do things that upset the entertainment industry (including the "three-strikes" rule that allows your entire family to be cut... More.
Guy mounts coffee cup on car roof, tweets about peoples' reactions
GitEmSteveDave made a magnetic Starbucks paper cup to attach to the roof of his car. He drives around and tweets peoples' reactions. Sample tweet: "13 honks, 3 points, 2 mimes, 3 StopLightTells, 1 flash, 1 wave, 2 laughs, 5 AlongSideRiders, 4 2xTakes, & 1 cute girl took my picture." He shares... More.

Augmented reality rig that turns you into a character in a third-person game
Marc Owens's augmented reality project "Avatar Machine" puts its users in VR helmets that display the world around them as though they were playing a third-person game, so that their own body is seen from behind. Associated Press loves fair use (we just wish they'd share)
The Associated Press, a organization with so little respect for fair use that they expect you to pay for a license to quote as little as five words from its articles, describes how it relied on fair use to do reporting on Sarah Palin's memoir Glowing Rouge: "The AP was determined to get the f... That is...(sniff)...so beautiful...
Love it! Nostalgia orgasm!
As awesome as the original? I think not :)

Did he suggest that his six year old hands were more nubile? Nice laptop nonetheless.
I'm impressed by his laptop systems, but I wonder why there's always a thick loop of wire running out the back to the monitor? Isn't there a way to internalize that? (note: I have no clue) I'd be afraid of someone thinking it was a handle.
Best thing ever!! I want one!
i think i would get one just to play "Impossible:Mission" or maybe even "Hacker".
the music is starting to make me tear up... i must go.
This is what Commodore should have done back in 1984 or so.
Ubercool! (In need of a time machine)
I'd happily trade my MacBook for that!
Finally, a demo video with entertaining narration as well.
Love the narration.
and now he need to make more of those. if he keeps it to just one he will prob be killed by jealous C64 hackers.
Did Ben Heck describe his wrists at 6 years old as "nubile?"
Those Atari joysticks suck. Get a Wico! (Also, this is fucking awesome.)
LOAD "*",8,1
Oh, my childhood!
This brings me back. Want!!!
It's an original Commodore 64 computer plus an emulated Commodore 1541 disk drive (the "1541-III"). I was fascinated by how the 1541-III lets you access the different disk images on the SD card using valid C64 LOAD commands.
I had never seen LOAD"$5",8 before, but after reading more about Commodore DOS, I can see how it's a logical extension.
Hey whippersnappers, that's *cload* to you. This is truly a hack in every sense of the word. Using an original C64 board seems too backward for my tastes, and I wonder why this wasn't used instead;

"...a few weeks ago, I said 'screw it' and started over."
You sound like a programmer.
Damn what a nostalgi trip that was, i might dig out my C-64 from my closet, and have a nice evening with some nostalgy games....
Badass. I spent way too many hours sitting in front of my C64.
I have a Commodore Executive SX-64 Laptop I'd like to get rid of--I mean sell. It works--A light goes on. I'm in Los Angeles and will except any reasonable offer. Frank: smptemonkey@yahoo.com
Very True about the Wico.
I Still have one and it NEVER broke!
Why cant they make controllers like THAT any more!
