Boing Boing Video and Offworld are Broadcasting Live from GDC09 - Tune In Now!

Boing Boing Video at GDC

The entire Boing Boing Video crew is in San Francisco this week, along with a number of the bloggers from Offworld, BB Gadgets, and Boing Boing, to cover the 2009 Game Developers Conference. And this time, for the first time ever, we're doing it with live video broadcasts on our new Ustream channel. Tune in for conversations in our BBV@GDC studio with hosts including Matty Kirsch from Killscreen TV,  Xeni and Joel from Boing Boing, visits from Brandon, Cory, and Pesco, and lots of game biz guests and happy mutants throughout the world, all week long!

For BB + Offworld's complete video and blog coverage of GDC09, visit offworld.com/gdc09.

(Special thanks to our live stream host Ustream TV, to Wayneco Heavy Industries, and to our transportation provider at Virgin America.)

The chat during the last section was a lot better, less spam and trolls.

Everyone should register and get their chat on with the Boingers.

Blocked the chat app within my browser, as it won't even connect to the irc server. Seems to take up an ungodly amount of system resources also.

As an aside, all these videos in lieu of well-written news posts reeks of lazy journalism, IMO...

Jeez, take a freakin chill pill guys. They did a live broadcast. It was fine for a good hour when Cory and Joel and Xeni were all chatting. They were taking questions and having fun interacting with the chatters.

It was a success (for that part at least, I didn't see the rest), and I hope it continues.

Would be nice to have a schedule... I'd like to be around when there's fresh content and live boingers.

Nice idea but I wish the default setting was to have this thing turned off. It slowed my browser to a crawl.

Hey @ridl and others -- this was an experiment for us, a first time thing we were sort of trying to wrap our heads around. The first day was fun! We'll have a lot more guests tomorrow, from around 11am to 5pm, and we'll be over at the GDC site at some point doing mobile livecasting from there. Should be a lot of fun, again, and I'll add something to the blog tomorrow that indicates a rough schedule of guests. We're looking at this right now more as a creative experiment than a finished product. Also, I think we'll have help from the Ustream guys on the chat moderation issues -- we had a sudden burst in numbers and no moderation, and that led to a lot of 4channish behavior. come back tomorrow, we'll have more fun! Well done Xeni!

There's a lot of potential in this format, something like an ancient-Greek-forum style of themed, topical debate; the host (and guest) in the middle conducting the chat, and the chatters offering questions and opinions.

And the first one was fun :)

File this in the "you had to be there" dept:

The high point of the evening.

I think it was really cool to see you live. You should do it more often... but I probably missed the best part because of my timezone. :(
As for the trolls, why bother, it's not a new phenomenon.
But honestly I'd love it if you live streamed every more or less important event with you guys commenting it.
