Hand-painted Mario shoes

Allison sez, "These are a pair of hand painted shoes I made one afternoon. I got the shoes for $5 at payless, and already had the paint. I free handed the shoes carefully by painting with a really tiny paint brush that I made. I sealed the shoes afterwards with spray acrylic, and voila!"

Hand painted shoes (Thanks, Allison!)

-drool- I may have to steal this idea... though I'll probably have to use something with simpler graphics... Pong is probably within my abilities.

Because you want to look like a professional.

Bonus: she's a fan of the Orson Scott Card Enderverse!

That might be sexier than the shoes.

I may have to try that! I'd probably make stencils, mostly because I suck at painting.

I'm sorry to tell you this, really the shoes are amazing. The panting is absolutely superb, but mario would never be jumping at that height unless you were using a game-genie.

That is so neat! But I'm curious as to what happens if you're out and about in these shoes and it starts raining, does the painting actually survive? And since it's looks like a pretty soft fabric, doesn't the paint crack through simply normal usage?

evidently hand crafted art items are coming back in a big way. Its nice to see such stuff in an age where everything is made to be disposable.

My theory is anything + Mario = awesome. I did an oil pastel a long time ago of Mario (http://www.flickr.com/photos/nlongtin/3360152430/). Not as cool as these shoes but I like the way it turned out.

I painted the shoes freehand. mario screen shots were difficult to find at the time, so i just was kind of winging it. they aren't perfect, they're just interesting. I'm a college student who loves art, but I can't drop $30 for a canvass every time i feel like painting. the shoes were a canvas that cost $5. All of my art revolves around looking at things differently than they normally are. I use mostly recycled items and trash, or cheap art supplies in an effort to show that we dont have to fill up the plant with garbage.

And acrylic sealer does crack if you bend it. I suggest if you try and do this for shoes you want to wear, use fabric paint or markers.

thanks to everyone for the compliments, and no i don't plan to sell them (that would be copyright infringement).

Oh and Teej, not only do I love video games and sci-fi novels, I also collect comic books, vintage electronics, and vinyl. For my day job, I manage a college radio station and I also am a columnist at our independent student newspaper.
