Beach Boys vs. Murry Wilson

200902251709 Murry Wilson was Brian Wilson's dad, the infamous bully manager-dad who sold the Beach Boys' song rights for $75,000 in 1969.

Over at Bedazzled, Spike Priggen has posted four MP3s of Murry working with the Beach Boys as they record some songs in the studio. (1, 2, 3, 4)

If you're as much of a Beach Boys fan as I am, this is pure gold.

Spike's also linked to four episodes of Peter Bagge's hilarious "Murry Wilson, Rock & Roll Dad." (Episode 1, 2, 3, 4)

Sheez, what a creep.

Wow. They're like scenes from a Berkoff play with vocal harmony interludes, which I think would make for an awesome musical.

Mark, you should check out Hippocamp Ruins Pet Sounds if you haven't already come across it. Sacrilege to some I know, but I think it's brilliant work.

Saw them live in '64. I always wondered why Brian teared up when he sang "In My Room".

Emily Geanacopoulos added sweet stick puppets to that "Help Me Rhonda" session to help re-enact it.

@#4, That is awesome that you saw them in the early days.

I love how Murry is bitching the whole time about one of them being "too close" or "too far away", yet he basically swallows the mic when he speaks.

I was able to make it thru the first 4 minutes of the first cut....I'm sorry...I jusdt love their music too much to listen to such brow-beating.

Talk about a Father jealous of a son....Murry need to be locked away, far far away.....

I guess it could have been worse for Brian. He could have had Marvin Gay Sr. for a father. What a way to celebrate your son's impending 45th birthday.

You mean Murry Wilson wasn't one of the Supremes?

Worth noting is that Murry had actually been fired by the "boys" as manager in '64, the year before this session. He would still show up at recording sessions like this (sometimes invited, sometimes not) to "help out."
