Most excellent. I want the "Very Gradual Change We Can Believe In" one as a poster.

Obama is a man who has made history. No wonder he has drawn or photoshopped as other famous people, such as Darwin, Lincoln, Washington, JFK, even Bob Marley and DMC.

To see more of Barack Obama as drawn or photoshopped :

I'm the guy who made those graphics. Quite soon I plan on setting up an online store (through zazzle perhaps) where you can get the images on a t-shirt or poster, etc. All proceeds will benefit the NCSE, who fight against creationism in public schools. I wasn't expecting to be boingboing'ed, so things are not quite ready yet!

This is simultaneously wonderful and smart, for both science, AND copyright reasons.

But think- with all the "copyright" claims around Fairey's version, that supposedly based on a photo by someone else, yet they are trying to extort money from Fairey, what will so-called copy-hating "copyright enforcers" (that phrase alone is full of laughable people) make of this? If they succeed against Fairey, can they sue this guy for deriving from Fairey's work? For that matter, could Fairey go after this guy himself? I doubt that due to his art's nature he would, but where does it end?

Hopefully Andy Warhol's idea of copying spreads, and all is good. Then again, they're mad at Fairey for not crediting his source- didn't Warhol have to/at least do that? If not, maybe that's prior art in favor of Fairey and this guy.

Did anyone clear this pic with Charles Darwin's estate?

Nice picture! But it's not animated.

Definitely passes the "I wish I'd thought of that" test.

Maybe we can get Congress to offer Hoefler & Frere-Jones a big hunk of money to release Gotham into the public domain, so people doing Fairey-Obama parodies can get the font right.

My 4 year old son just saw this and asked me "Is that Barack Obama's dad?"

I had one for a tshirt I never got round to making:

E V O L U T I O N
It's just a matter of time.

I was slightly familiar with Shepard Fairey's work long before the election, because I investigated his "giant" stickers when I started seeing them in separate cities thousands of miles apart (as well as on a rural stop sign in the middle of nowhere). I have one of Fairey's "while you were sleeping" stickers, that I razored off a shattered pepsi machine in a slum outside of New York City, stuck on the cover of one of my notebooks.

I love the Obama poster because the style harks back to "heroic socialist realist" art, which provokes me to think on irony and cognitive dissonance. Having it be work by Fairey, who is notorious for both adapting the work of others and (allegedly) crying foul when someone reuses his work, well, that's just icing on the cake. It's such a simple image that has such profound and internally conflicting memes attached to it, I love it.

This is even better, though... it puts even more layers on the onion. The only way this could be improved would be for Fairey to condemn O'Darwin as plagarism! Want!

Kali seems like a good candidate for the Fairey treatment, too:
