Copper bandaid

Becky Stern sez, "I'm taking an introductory metalworking class, and for our first sample project I made this copper band-aid. I formed the strip on a hydraulic press (read: car jack in a steel frame) sandwiched between layers of acrylic (bottom) and flexible urethane (top). The pad is textured by running it through a roller against some window screen, then I applied a water-based white patina. The overall texture of the strip is hammered and buffed. It's about seven inches long. I'm excited to learn more about metalworking."

blingin' band-aid.
If you were going to make a band aid out of metal, copper is good because it has antibacterial properties. I'm pretty sure no germs will grow on this project. And it keeps nasty RF out of the wound.
NIIIICE. I'm a metal worker as well so this is right up my alley. (I actually like casting more)
That "white patina" spoke of, what is being used? A salt of copper? or a dye solution??? Any Boing Boingers have an idea?
Also, ways to display this: I see this hanging on a rod. Do you have an idea of how you might display this if you were to set it up somewhere (think gallery or museum). I love hearing artists ideas on how to display their own artwork. It brings new meaning to the piece.
I think the next metalworking project should be a giant, but maybe slightly accident prone, robot. A normal band-aid is about 3 inches long, so a 14 foot high humanoid robot would be approximately to scale.
It'll keep the barnacles off the wound, eh?
Looks like brass, though.
@laureltree I don't quite know what the patina is, I borrowed it from a friend. It's water-based, and I had to apply several layers to get any kind of coating, which is then very powdery. Since I'm not wearing it as jewelry or anything, I might as well have used acrylic paint.
I'm really disappointed that this wasn't called a Steampunk Band-aid :(

Right up your alloy?
My boyfriend is interested in metal-working - specifically making resonating metal/gongs -anyone know of a place to learn this in the LA area?
