Bollywood portrait as holiday card

2009 01 Front Our Delhi Struggle is a blog chronicling the lives of Dave and Jenny, two New Yorkers who moved to Delhi. For their holiday card, they decided to find a Bollywood poster painter who would do their portraits in that terrific style. Sadly, this kind of poster painting is a dying art as the megaplexes drive local theaters, who commission the promotional art, out of business. In Old Delhi, Dave and Jenny found a willing painter, named Vijay. They recount their experience on their blog.

In a day filled with bank bailouts, auto bailouts & Madoff icebergs tipping over, this post gave me a much needed attitude adjustment. This artist could start a thriving business creating fantasy Bollywood posters for *ahem* discerning clients. I would be the first in line.

Man, that's great. They've been in Delhi too long if they think the non-megaplex theatres are a dying art. There's 3 huge movie industries there and India is filled with single screen theatres.

Now I'll have to go back to Old Delhi to find that guy so I can get one of me.

Dave and Jenny actually have been doing this for years. I think the last one was Indiana Jones themed. There was the picture of them opening a box full of white powder for the 2001 or 2002 holidays. Creative kids... and I know Dave will harass me for admitting it.

For those of you who don't read Hindi, the tagline is: "Love is stronger than danger."

I'd kill to have a Bollywood poster of myself and my fiance. Fabulous.

The title seems to be mispelled: "Dehli Sdragal"

Looks to be a transliteration of Daily Struggle -- or maybe the artist couldn't spell.

Send it to "Hindi Fail"?
