HOWTO resurface a table with dominoes

Instructables author Crowdsourced has a nice, simple HOWTO for resurfacing an old table with dominoes, noting that this is simpler and easier than broken-tile mosaics (and it's pretty sweet-looking besides!).

Dominoes Table (who needs broken tiles?) (via Craft)

Numerical symbols in a pattern on a table. It would be even cooler if the table was a mathematical proof of some kind.

Not that I would ever understand it, but I would find it cool.

It's lovely, but oh, the potential for little grotty bits to get lodged in the crevices and pips. Put an edge around it and pour a thin layer of resin over it, maybe?

Yes, to finish with a layer of clear resin would be great. Otherwise keeping the dots clean and unscratched would be a nightmare. And it's never fun to find mold growing out of your tabletop.

Better yet, make a picture with the dominoes.

Apparently coating stuff with resin stops decomposition, so take that theory to absurd extremes and you could just put a pizza on a table, then drown it in resin. Presto, a pizza table!

OCD sense tingling...
I can't imagine all the grim this type of table top would acquire within a month, let alone a simple way to clean it.
#2 mamayama is right, there needs to be a seal, a lid or some kind of finish!

Hmm. Stuff would get between the rounded corners. Not good for a dining table methinks.

@11: Very nice, if only his techniques were open source

if not resin, a piece of tempered glass or lexan.

If you had your friends over to play dominoes on top of it, it would be mind-blowing.

Yes wingo, even more so, if said friend's name were "Domino".

Nothing a piece of glass or lexan on top can't fix.
