That cop suffered from a woeful lack of SpyHunter as a kid.
The absence of context in maddening.
Apparently the Chinese police are not familiar with footballs of either persuasion.
@Chris L - I second that.
-I second Chris on the lack of context... my curiosity is not easily ignored.
- @ "posted in: Funny" Look, I know we all have a lot of bad things we could probably say about the cops (especially if you're in the US or UK), but that doesn't mean they don't ever do any good. I'm sure if a crime or crisis had occurred and you called the cops and were relying on their arrival you might not find this so funny...
Admittedly, I daresay it's safe enough to assume they're unlikely to be on their way to intervene in a robbery or murder in this case. Maybe they're just trying to give the driver a ticket? Wish I knew.
-What kind of truck is that, anyway? ^_-
That is hilarious, but I agree with Chris L.
Why do we think this is a police car?
Looks more like one of the vehicles in a convoy traveling with a Wide Load truck, to me.
How very... existential.
#5 - On the other hand, if they were coming to arrest me for being critical of massive government corruption, I might be rather pleased at the the delay. It's all about perspective.
I'm pretty sure in China (as in many countries) the cops always drive with their roof lights on. If it was an emergency or the cop was trying to pull the truck over, he'd probably have his siren off too.
I'm sure I'll get corrected real quickly if I'm wrong on that one.
WTF.
ChrisL, I think you made the only possible conclusion that wouldn't cause this thread to explode into a "COPS GOOD vs. COPS BAD!" flame war.
Pshh! If no one else will get it started, I will: "The cop was probably on his way to [assault a cyclist / stop a bank robbery]!"
This is standard weaving tactic employed by car racers to prevent cars behind from overtaking them, which makes watching races boring, but in this case hilarious.
Maybe they'd just watched "Smokey and the Bandit"
I've been in numerous taxis in China whose drivers taunted the cops. In one, we drove up an embankment on the side of the freeway to pass a cop, the driver rolled down his window, yelled at the cop for driving so slowly, spit at him, and then cut him off. I've always wondered if there's some sort of immunity taxi drivers have when carrying foreigners...
So many questions!!
I mean, people get jailed for blogging in China, yet they can get away with that (or did he?)??
It's almost too puzzling to be funny...
Almost.
I wish we could understand the guys making the video.
The Chinese Knight Rider team clearly isn't as coordinated as their American counterparts.
That's gotta be the most gutless cop car I've ever seen. Is the guy pedaling it?
we can learn from China.
I guess the cops in China don't have radios in their cars.
I think you would be hard pressed to pull this off for longer than 30 seconds in the U.S.
But if you do, can you please wait till I am behind you? I would truly like to see it.
@ KENBRADY - i call bullshit
I'm not sure it's a police car either. There are so many kind of cars with lights and sirens in China. I also don't think the driver would risk getting severely beaten up by the police. And, what the hell is the dialect they were speaking?
@SIMON LIN
ShanDong
The video went on so long, I think the guys doing the filming started off talking about the truck and the cop and then eventually went on to what they were going to have for lunch and then about Apple pulling out of Macworld.
good, Shandong then. So what were they saying ?(besides "snicker snicker, wotta rube!)
@ #14:
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin
We gonna do what they say can't be done
We've got a long why to go and a short time to get there
I'm east bound just watch old Bandit run
Emergency vehicles must not have very good acceleration in China.
why would they need it? If there is a pursuit, all they would need to do is radio ahead and have the fleeing vehicle chopped to pieces with heavy machine gun fire.
Hello Chinese 911? It's your tiny balls calling. They said they're leaving you because you don't use them.
@Evil Jim: Exactly. While the truck driver has some skill but a decent car AND driver could get around that easily. Methinks the car is a little underpowered but it is clear from the video the cop driver either had no desire to get by the truck or had never before been behind the wheel.
Bad tactics from the cop car. He's never going to be able to get up enough speed past the truck if he tailgates it like that. Should have pulled back a few hundred meters, and then floored it. Wait for the truck driver to make his move, and then switch over lanes and be past him nice a quick. High risk, but the only way.
on the other hand, he can go back to the station and say "Chased him til I ran out of gas". Why risk your life for fifty bucks a month?

I lol'ed heartily.
maybe getting in front of a crazy truck driver in a subcompact is a good idea to you but I think following till someone runs out of gas or the truck has to stop is a good idea.
Alternate ending
Did you see that little car zoom around the truck....o sht that didn't end good.
Well, it's obvious.
The cops didn't have spike strips, so they were forcing the truck to swerve back and forth to wear out the tires until a blowout occurred.
Anyone else impressed by the road? LED street sign & everything, nice-looking overpass, good pavement.
The asphalt looks new. I don't see cracks and patched up areas. The edges look sharp. The lanes look freshly painted with no signs of prior paintovers. No rubber-worn "polishing" on the surface from years of use.
Looks good now but how long will the stuff last? Did they tamp down the dirt hard enough to prevent erosion and cracking? Did they use a thick enough layer of asphalt? I bet they cheaped out and all this infrastructure is going to wash away, crack, and will never get fixed in the next 10 years. Then the only vehicles that will be able to traverse these failed Chinese backroads will be Mercedes Unimogs built in the 1960s loaded up like a Bangladeshi train.
Who was the genius who thought to combine a giant front-facing billboard-like placard on the roof of a subcompact cop car that is powered by what I suspect is a weak inline 4 cylinder engine? No wonder that thing can't get up to speed.
As hilarious as I find this, is it for real? I find it hard to believe. Just because it's in China does not make it legit...

P.S. Have you seen this video?

Xeni can you please post this again with Yakety Sax
Worst remake of Spielberg's 'Duel' ever.
Was he trying to pass or pull the truck over? If the latter I guess he could just hang back and wait. Maybe the truck driver was just really drunk.
Lots of ways he could have passed. He could have waited for an open median or shoulder (a section with no guardrail) and passed there. Maybe the truck would have swerved onto the median to block him but it might have gotten stuck then. Cop could have passed on the right shoulder/breakdown lane with that flatbed preventing the other truck from swerving. He could have driven up an off ramp and back down the on ramp at high speed, or just crossed over to the other side of the highway until the next exit and crossed back. A steep uphill section would have been to the cops advantage too...
Anyway, when a particular tactic doesn't work, you can't just keep trying it. This is basic to one on one combat.
Hrmm... China is probably the LAST country I would choose for taunting police officers. I really wouldn't want an all expenses paid ticket to the nearest organ donor clin - errr I mean prison.
@32 - I was thinking exactly the same thing; fall back 100 yards and build up a velocity advantage.
Or grow a pair and see if he really would force a cop car into the median.
Someone needs to take the "East Bound and Down" audio and put it with this video for the win!
- yeff
What is that cop driving? A Nissan Micra? No wonder he can't pass the truck.
This could never happen in the West, e.g. Italy:

the US:

or even Bulgaria (not technically part of The West, but still not as far East as it used to be):

What were Bevis and Butthead saying in the original video before it was translated for Asian markets?
Okay, all kidding aside, this guy showed absolutely zero behind the wheel skills. Unless you're talking about the truck driver. It makes me wonder if he was actually in an emergency/pursuit situation at all.
3:54 = awesome.
cop car tries to get around when they catch up to another truck. But the first truck forces the second truck over, blocking the cop car.
