Giant chunky handmade knitwear from a funny maker

Etsy seller Yokoo not only makes some pretty rad gigantic chunky knitwear, but she also gives good funny in her little "featured seller" interview:

Please describe your creative process how, when, materials, etc.

Well, Im not going to lie to you. A healthy dose of plagiarism never hurt anybody. When that falls flat, I find that taking my consciousness off of the process altogether really allows the problem to figure itself out.

Opening refrigerator doors does wonders for the dormant mind. I would bet that there must be a sort of creative composite in coolant. I find that staring blankly into the back of the refrigerator wall usually releases a couple of pinned ideas to rub softly on the forefront of my head.

Yokoo (Thanks, Robert!)

Sorry, boingboing, but that particular item looks crocheted to me. Hook v. needles, etc.

She does beautiful work.

Did anyone else spot her striking resemblance to designer to the gods,Edna Mode?

Except, y'know, taller and not a cartoon character.

It's snowing here in Pennsylvania and that scarf looks so warm and toasty!

Beware confusing knitted with crocheted.

Neither side appreciates it.

Staring into the refrigerator has almost always been my failsafe device of last resort for breaking free that icy block that prevents my brain from evolving to the next highest level of abstraction. That or humming one of the tunes from Free to Be You and Me. Great post!

if by "funny" you mean "contrived" then, yeah, she's hilarious alright. i do, however, love the scarf.

Is that Edna Mode? If so, I want that knitwear.

Someone beat me to it, but yeah: it's Edna Mode, for sure.

Just my $.02:

I think it's second nature to most creatives to NOT answer such questions in the traditional, boring way. Even if the end result ends up being "contrived" it's original and, at the least, not boring. It's how we get "Poughkeepsie" as the answer to the question, "Where do you get your ideas?" (Harlon Ellison) and other such great quotes.

While most (and I do realize I'm generalizing, but I feel rather safe in doing so from personal experiences) people feel safer and sometimes even self-congratulatorily "non-contrived" in answering such questions as they're "meant" to be answered, the fact of the matter is that you learn far more about a person who answers in a creative way (although the answers you get may not actually answer the questions asked) than you do from the boring, formulaic bio of the traditionalist.

From the latter, I learn where you grew up, what you are willing to admit to enjoying and maybe the most acceptable listing of what you're up to now. From the former I learn who you really are as a person and how your mind works.

And besides, most creatives simply look at such questions less as questions to be answered and more as new raw material to create with. To offer the same, boring superficial bio would be to take yarn and make a plastic canvas toilet paper cover, or to take a lump of clay and make a grade-school ashtray. In short, to answer "as expected" is a waste of good material in the pursuit of the vulgarly mundane.

I love Yokoo's Etsy shop! Her work is so warm and creative. I featured her on my blog back in October.
