Torture Is the New Chic
A Guantanamo Bay-themed scarf from a fashion collection designed by Hannah Mitchell, a student at Massey University in New Zealand. The scarf is printed with distorted texts and the lyrics to Bob Dylan's "Masters of War." Lyrics sampler: "Let me ask you one question/Is your money that good/Will it buy you forgiveness/Do you think that it could/I think you will find/When your death takes its toll/All the money you made/Will never buy back your soul." (Via Pipeline.)
"It's a political continuum regarding the way media, in particular America's Fox News, distorts the truth behind cultural conflicts, civil wars and different situations around the world including Guantanamo Bay," Ms Mitchell said.
She has deliberately produced her garments from contrasting fabrics - free-flowing silk and restrictive leather - to make her point.
"Rather than producing a beautiful commercial collection, I am using fashion as a communication tool to say what I want to say."
Related: A music video collage of the outgoing regime's and others' war-mongerings set to Dylan's "Masters of War" and created by a guy named Brian.
Also related: "Torture Couture."

All is fair in ....
Want.
To those who buy that scarf I'd ask the same question printed on it: "Is your money that good, will it buy you forgiveness?"
yeah, exactly.
Let me ask you one question
Is your scarf that good
will it buy you forgiveness?
Ignorance’s Victims
Tell me what the fuck you think you know
From whose seed did your ideas grow
How much of what makes up your mind
Did you consciously put there or me in mine
Do we have any fucking idea
The depth of the problem
The extent of the fear
So much shit in our heads
No control of our times
We parrot the lies and walk the lines
Piss in their bottles and give up our guns
Pay for their wars, hurray our side won
So just shut the fuck up
You’re only a victim
Another casualty
Of the fraud in the system
Just lay back
Forget everything you know
You’ve been beaten, raped
Arranged in neat rows
Mentally deceased
Voluntarily disarmed
Ignorance’s victims
Kept safe from harm
I don't need your forgiveness because my money makes me better than you.
Good song. Silly scarf, but good song.

Umm... "torture couture" is sexy?
I've always loved that song. Here's another:
And so once again
My dear Johnny my dear friend
And so once again you are fightin' us all
And when I ask you why
You raise your sticks and cry, and I fall
Oh, my friend
How did you come
To trade the fiddle for the drum
You say I have turned
Like the enemies you've earned
But I can remember
All the good things you are
And so I ask you please
Can I help you find the peace and the star
Oh, my friend
What time is this
To trade the handshake for the fist
And so once again
Oh, America my friend
And so once again
You are fighting us all
And when we ask you why
You raise your sticks and cry and we fall
Oh, my friend
How did you come
To trade the fiddle for the drum
You say we have turned
Like the enemies you've earned
But we can remember
All the good things you are
And so we ask you please
Can we help you find the peace and the star
Oh my friend
We have all come
To fear the beating of your drum
here's a slightly different take on the subject of torture : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTiaVT_BViY
The Roots have been doing a great cover of this song. I got to hear it when they performed in Bellingham, WA, but here is their performance at Coachella:

Great song, stupid shirt.
So what was Bush saying that Hillary Clinton got up to applaud? (Of course, it's possible that this is an edit and that she didn't actually stand to applaud, but I'd bet that's not the case.)
God I hope she doesn't end up as Secretary of State. Remember, this is the woman who threatened to "obliterate" the Iranians: That includes every man, woman, and child.
Ahhh I see what she's trying to do here. Once this gets into the mainstream, torture won't be hip anymore and those avant-garde posers in Guantanamo will like totally have to reinvent their style.
