It doesn't really work that easily...he must've bent the one clip, otherwise, the phone just slips out....still workin' on it...
Or buy the $15 pre-bent clip soon available from a third-party manufacturer.

By the way, I was being sarcastic. -- H.Simpson
looks like he's using a rubber case.. that's probably why it's not slipping. Of course, he might have bent the clip, as well.
Yep. Gotta bend the clip.
(of course I keep pliers at my desk)
That's a great idea. We have a flickr group dedicated to DIY iPhone stands, check out what some of our members have made http://www.flickr.com/groups/556182@N24/pool/
If you look, the bottom leg of the clip was bent into a J shape.
I work at an office supply chain and we have a lot of people come in and buy our 99 cent business card holders to use as iPhone stands. They're the perfect size and shape, prebent, and have little felt feet so it doesn't slide around on the desk. We also have fancier models for those who want something that looks a bit nicer, like real wood or some white leather thing.
something wrong with duct tape?
Huh. My iPod Touch came with a stand, the iPhones don't?
I made mine from the plastic packaging tray that came with the iPhone:

I used a staple gun.
In a week Apple will send out Cease and Desist letters to all office supply stores, convenience stores and dollar stores ordering them to stop selling these clips, as they might be used with an Apple product in a non-approved manner.

It's easier than I thought to bend one of these into the J shape; just stick the one you want to bend between two heavy objects up to the "neck" - I used a joint between two sections of my desk - and pushed on the body of it.
30 seconds of work and I finally have a nice place to rest the thing. Awesome!
@Narual: This is the case he's using: http://goincase.com/products/detail/metallic-slider-case-cl59061
Those clips actually work pretty well without bending. I'd take a photo with my iPhone on it but...so here's one without the phone: http://img373.imageshack.us/my.php?image=photolr1.jpg
He's watching The Patterson Film. That's the key.
What's an "iPhone"?
Wow, the definition of "crafty" sure is getting broad these days. Ooh, I bent a binder clip, I'm sooo crafty!
#16, the answer is "unnecessary."
I'm waiting for the mag-lev version.
Hey, that's pretty cool, man.
One time, I was using a metal detector in the cemetery and I dug up a split rock. I saved it and today I use it to smooth down stickers on my iPhone.
Once, I was going through the airport and I saw TSA use a piece of broken airplane to prop up a phone.
snapped off when they were climbing it?
a metal detector in the cemetery?
In the UK that's a Bulldog Clip, however I find a large pile of Blu-tack serves most of my positioning needs.
Haha, I'm here at work trying to make this clip-stand work to no avail, I need to start being productive again. Anyone else having trouble with this?
Another day, another iPhone stand. I appreciate how the apparent pinnacle of human technology has once again taught humans how to put things on other things. Imagine all the things you could lean an iPhone against - you'll have content to fill your blog for years.
You are all better off with a BatRest. See http://www.seskimo.com. Folds flat to fit in your wallet.
