Kembra Pfahler: Sit-Ins

200810231755

Richard Metzger says:

From October 8 to November 1, New York's fab Deitch Projects art gallery host my beloved friend Kembra Pfahler's latest show of "butt prints"! The exhibit coincides with the Deitch-published artist monograph "Beautalism" which documents Pfahler's recent work.

Yikes and Wow.!!!

I usually dislike most forms of alternative painting. My favorite artists are Norman Rockwell and H.R. Giger, but as long as its "painted" by a cute chick, consider me a huge fan of butt prints.

I look forward to seeing that image in my dreamy nightmares. Sweet color blend.

I want to be one of these chicks for Halloween.

they're really not that interesting to look at.

and the video of their creation (also on display at the deitch projects) really doesn't add to the experience.

stuff like this is depressing for art students like myself.

I think I've seen them in Paper magazine.

Oh good, the Amy Winehouse clones I ordered finally came in. You can put them over there. Right next to the shark penis. Thank you!

I love her work... I'm glad that her work is depressing art students. There's a scene in Holy Mountain where fine art is being produced in a assembly line fashion ... as the canvas moves down the line each person sits their paint covered butt onto the canvas.

"Kembra uses her own semi-naked form to make her mark."

What a coincidence! My dog uses HER own semi-naked form to make a mark on the lawn every morning.

I have to concur with Joshua. There's nothing in their methodology, critical framework, or aesthetic goals that advances the "butt print" genre. No, wait - their marketing is a step up, and their commercialization of the butt print as Crate & Barrel-esque eye anesthesia does set them apart from the more avant-garde Jocularist estampe des fesses work we produced in undergrad after a night of carousing.

Wow, what a bunch of pretentious prattle going on from all y'all's.

Before you run your digital mouths any further, do some research. Kembra Pfaler is a cult punk legend, most famous for fronting The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black.

Joshua, if her art makes you depressed as an art student, you should reconsider another line of study, or at least brush up on your contemporary art study and brush down on your pretentiousness.
