Rice Krispies promotional record from the 1980s

WFMU's Beware of the Blog kindly digitized a promotional record for Rice Krispies from the 1980s.

200809171321.jpg Medley 2 is a strange but instantly classic piece of promotional fluff. It opens with that '80s rock groove and lots of overproduced guitar, and it's hard to knock lyrics like, "Cruising to the kitchen, got breakfast on my mind."

Then it gets bizarre. Really. At 1:14, there's a strange psychedlic interlude that sounds like George Martin's countdown for the pre-orchestral studio track of the Beatles' "A Day in the Life." Two seconds later, it goes country. Finally it closes out with perhaps the greatest New Wave song ever written in support of a breakfast food. Images of Lena Lovich and CBGBs will be dancing through your head, and Snap, Crackle, and Pop even drop in for some backing vocals.

Snap, Crackle, P-P-P-POP!

Not as cool as "Do The Slurp" for 7-11...

Wow. I'm the king of rough transitions, but the country to new wave thing takes the cake.

yeah, that middle section kind of ruined it for me.

I'm old enough to remember the jingles on side one in the RK commercials. This brought back all kinds of memories.

That's not George Martin doing the countdown on "A Day In The Life", it's roadie Mal Evans.

The "Into your Morning" refrain(particularly right near the end of Medley 2) sounds disconcertingly close to the Pixies' "Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons"

...Lene Lovich for a breakfast cereal??

"I'm having sooo much fun!
Rice Krispies on my tongue!
Ooh-Ah-OOH-Ah!"

[Cue Les Chappell on breakfast spoon solo]

Dunno if anyone follows.. but anyone know if this break has been used? Sounds pretty sweet, I'm def gonna have to chop it up.

Nice digging WFMU!

On second listen, it's pretty straight. But it slows down nicely and some 16th action will spice up the groove a smidge.

Never begrudge a break.

HI
I have been trying to find an old advert from 1972 about Worthington E. For years I've been looking and today I came acress Beanolini's coment that his friend has a promo record of it.
I don't know how to send a message to a member on here. I would like to get a message to beanolini and ask if he/she could get me a copy of the promo. My user name on here is andylaugh.

Many thanks

Andy
